WorldSBK 2018: Jordi Torres bets on MV Agusta F4 RC
After two courageous but laborious seasons on the BMW S1000RR, Jordi Torres will ride the MV Agusta F4 RC next year, developed over three years and brilliantly by Leon Camier. Can the "Spanish Elvis" find his best? ?
In 2015, Jordi Torres won the "title" of rookie of the year in World Superbike at the helm of the Aprilia RSV4 Factory. Alongside the experienced Leon Haslam, the former Grand Prix star (Moto2) had even won, in the penultimate race of the season, in Qatar.
But the official withdrawal of Aprilia the following year abruptly interrupted this great momentum … The "Spanish Elvis" then found refuge with the excellent Althea team: titled in 2011 with Checa and the Ducati 1098, the Italian team then bet on the BMW S1000RR.
Due to the tempestuous nature of his new mount, Jordi failed to match his remarkable first season on the successful RSV4: the No. 81 driver scored 34 points less in 2016, did not climb on any podium ( four in 2015) and ceded his fifth place in WorldSBK to a new "rookie", Nicky Hayden.
Catalonia and Lombardy united !
Faithful to his team and combative, Torres had an even more trying 2017 season: dropped by his teammate Markus Reiterberger at the start of the season, the Catalan – Spanish? – had to flex his elbows and hips to enter the Top 5 only three times in the race.
In 2018 therefore, the facetious Jordi will drop the orders of his S1000RR insufficiently supported by the German firm, to seize those of the unique F4 RC of MV Agusta, whose small factory in Varese seems to be much more involved in the Superbike championship despite its setbacks. financial !
The bet of Jordi Torres, preceded in the WSBK 2017 championship by Leon Camier precisely, is nevertheless daring: if the English driver n ° 2 has freed his place at MV – -, it is because he believes perhaps to have drawn the maximum of his "bella macchina" on the one hand, and that he probably got tired of the technical glitches repeatedly of his "diva" on the other … To be continued on Site !
