WSBK France (2): Davies does not really stop
Winner of a funny first round yesterday at Magny-Cours (drying track), Chaz Davies doubled the bet this afternoon in the dry. The Welsh n ° 7 took advantage of the fight between Sykes and Rea to impose his factory Ducati on the two official Kawasaki.
Departure : Jonathan Rea started very well from his pole position ahead of Chaz Davies, Tom Sykes, Leon Camier, Nicky Hayden, Michael van den Mark, Sylvain Guintoli, Lorenzo Savadori, Xavi Fores, etc. Many changes take place in the heart of the top 10 on the first pass of Adelaide: Guintoli in particular, takes advantage of a few deviations in the trajectory to hoist his R1 in sixth position !
In the lead, Rea is surprised by Sykes and Davies. The three pilots quickly move away from Camier who whips his MV Agusta! A little too generous on the right grip, "Kamir" is passed by VDM at the very start of the 2nd lap, counter-attack in Adelaide but finally remains fifth.
Guintoli was half a second behind the Anglo-Dutch duo, but the "Frenchie" was passed by Savadori on the 3rd lap. The Italian would like to take part in the superb fight for fourth place … Will Sylvain be able to accompany the Italian? ?
In front, Tom Sykes sticks half a second to his two pursuers in a single loop! "Major Tom" breaks his own lap record in the race in 2013, the year of his coronation: Davies and Rea must bow. Beaten on heavy braking, "Johnny" slips his Ninja under the Panigale of "Chazie" in the Imola chicane…
Two and a half seconds behind No.1 Kawasaki and No.7 Ducati, No.60 Honda and No.2 MV Agusta are still being chased by No.32 Aprilia. "Our" No. 50 Yamaha, on the other hand, lost contact and was even joined by Hayden, Fores, Torres and Lowes. Brookes is a few pitches ahead…
The only riders to have dropped below 1.38 in the race, Sykes and Rea are approaching the mid-race course just a few lengths apart! Davies is relegated to a second and a half of the two official Ninjas. Van den Mark and Camier do not turn faster than the factory Ducati and therefore remain at three big seconds.
As fast as the Michael and Leon, Lorenzo and his Aprilia are more than three seconds behind. The Italian couple must have missed each other somewhere! Guintoli is just two seconds from RSV4 n ° 32 but has a lot to do to stay ahead of Nicky Hayden … And Torres and Fores are not very far either. !
In front, Rea is more and more pressing on Sykes: especially when braking Adelaide, the "Number One" of the discipline frequently shifts inside the "Number sixty-six" but does not pass in front. Pressure! Taking advantage of this little game, Davies crunches six tenths of a second over his predecessors in the 14th lap alone … Five seconds away, Camier steals Van den Mark’s fourth place.
Warned of Davies ‘return by his signaller at the start of the 16th lap, Rea lodged in Sykes’ asp as he left Estoril but failed to – wouldn’t prefer? – overwhelm his teammate. Davies finds himself in the wake of the two Kawasaki with five more laps to go….
Jonathan’s attack comes in the next loop, braking Adelaide. A suspicion too broad, Rea takes his teammate with him … and opens a boulevard to Davies who did not ask for so much! The winner of the first round plunges his helmet under his bubble and redoubles his vigor.
A turn later, Rea validates his attack on Sykes in Adelaide. Ninja n ° 1 has three and a half laps to climb up Panigale n ° 7. As if unbridled, the factory Ducati gradually moved away … With two laps to go, Davies was a big second ahead of the 2015 champion and 2016 leader, two seconds behind the 2013 champion..
Sixteen seconds behind Davies, "Guinters" must defend his seventh place against Torres and his BMW. The "Spanish Elvis" passed in front of Hayden, but the American does not let go! Thirty seconds behind them, Matthieu Lagrive occupies a respectable 15th place.
At the forefront, Davies flies to victory. Rea is kept under pressure by Sykes to the checkered flag, but does not crack. Camier crosses the finish line less than seven seconds behind Sykes, confirming that the F4 is going strong … and that he himself is an excellent driver. !
Beaten by Jordi Torres on the final lap, Sylvain Guintoli finished eighth in his second race at home, just ahead of Nicky Hayden. Matthieu Lagrive gets the point for fifteenth place and Alex Plancassagne finishes penultimate (20th).
Author of the fifth double of his career in WorldSBK, Chaz Davies mathematically remains in contention for the 2016 title since he is 81 points behind Jonathan Rea while 100 points remain to be distributed: 50 in Jerez then 50 in Losail…
Third as yesterday, Tom Sykes is this time ahead of his teammate Jonathan Rea. The two Ninjas leave France with a slightly increased gap: 48 laps separate "Major Tom" from "the ruthless JR". To keep his world crown, Rea will have to increase this lead to 50 points at the end of the Spanish event. See you in two weeks !
