Jonathan Rea didn’t give his opponents a chance this afternoon at Buriram. The No. 65 Kawasaki Racing Team takes his third 2015 victory in four races, ahead of Leon Haslam – again! – and Alex Lowes.
Second Superbike race
Jonathan Rea gets off to a good start at the helm of his Ninja. Alex Lowes followed # 65 into the first corner but the Suzuki rider was beaten by Leon Haslam on acceleration. Follow Chaz Davies, Tom Sykes, Alex Torres, David Salom, Troy Bayliss, Matteo Baiocco and Sylvain Guintoli who, victim of a technical glitch before the pre-grid, had to start from the back of the grid !
Lowes has a particularly muscular attack on his very good friend – so far ?! – Leon Haslam to move up to second position. Rea completed the first lap a short second ahead of Lowes. Davies, Haslam and Sykes complete 100% British Top 5, but Spain’s Jordi Torres is just behind !
Very well started and extremely motivated, our favorite "Frenchie", Sylvain Guintoli lost a few places in the second lap and circulated in 13th place, in the wheel of Leandro Mercado, himself preceded by our second best representative, Sylvain Barrier.
Haslam wins a place by housing his RSV4 in the aspiration of the No. 7 Ducati from Davies in the second straight of the circuit. The n ° 91 was then half a second behind Alex Lowes, who was more than 1.5 seconds behind Jonathan Rea..
While the n ° 65 Ninja sets up a series of very good lap times – the best on the track – his n ° 66 teammate is unleashed to stay a safe distance from n ° 81 Aprilia whom he affectionately nicknamed the "Spanish Elvis" at the end of the race. the first round! Between the two Ninjas, Leon Haslam finds himself in the wheel of Alex Lowes and prepares his revenge…
Twelve seconds behind the leader (in the 7th lap), Sylvain Guintoli climbed back to sixth place (!) But five big customers are following him: the n ° 1 is ahead of Troy Bayliss Himself, Michael van den Mark, Matteo Baiocco, David Salom and Leandro Mercado.
After losing the front of his Ducati in the first run, Chaz Davies loses the rear in the second run! He left in 22nd and last position, thirty seconds behind the 15th place occupied by Leon Camier. Moments later, Randy de Puniet has to give up because of his Suzuki.
In front, Leon Haslam raised the tone: the Aprilia rider passed Alex Lowes and moved away in less than two laps, turning a second faster than n ° 22! On lap 10, Haslam was just over two seconds behind Rea.
Fourth, Tom Sykes distanced himself from Jordi Torres. The 2013 champion is aiming for the Suzuki which is two seconds ahead of him … and on the podium! Six seconds behind Sykes, the two 2014 Superbike and Supersport champions parade together. Baiocco, Salom, Mercando and Bayliss no longer fight.
On the 14th lap, Jonathan Rea overtook the last driver still in the race, Chanon Chumjai. The No.65 is nearly three seconds ahead of Leon Haslam, and more than five over Alex Lowes. Tom Sykes maintains his lead of a good second over Jordi Torres, just as Sylvain Guintoli still dominates Michael van den Mark.
Two laps from the end, Torres gets stuck in Sykes’ rear wheel and tries to put the brakes on him, but can’t do it! Particularly well out of turn 3, Jordi however passes in front of Tom in the following straight line and manages to stay ahead of his rival in the fast curve n ° 4 !
More than 12 seconds ahead, "JR" continues a race which, seen from the outside, seems incredibly easy! The new Greens recruit tumbles to another victory, his second of the day and the third – out of four! – on the handlebars of the ZX-10R.
Leon Haslam gets a new second place ahead of his great friend Alex Lowes, back on the podium with his Suzuki Voltcom. Jordi Torres and Tom Sykes complete the Top 5 of this second Thai race, a little less lively than the first … and much less spectacular than the Phillip Island races..
Just ahead of the finish line by Michael van den Mark, Sylvain Guintoli is still credited with 6th place: the n ° 60 went off the track in the last corner trying an impossible outside on our " Number One "but was able to accelerate harder on the exit. It is therefore logically penalized.
In the championship, Rea isolated himself in the lead, accumulating 95 points out of the 100 at stake in Australia and then in Thailand. Haslam hasn’t left No.65 from a Pirelli since the start of the season and is just 10 points behind. Their opponents are a little further: Sykes is third with 50 points, followed by Guintoli (41) and Torres (39).
