Adventure look scooter

Around ten years ago, Yamaha also had a BW’s 125 in its range in this country. Now a new generation of BW’s is starting in Taiwan, which is particularly optically breaking new ground.

The type abbreviation BW’s is next Yamaha for big wheels and always with an independent look. While the scooter range of the Japanese in Europe focuses on models with a sporty, modern cut, Asia is offered completely different scooter goods.

Unconventional off-road look

One of them is the Yamaha BW’s 125, which has now been presented in Taiwan. The look is independent, mixes off-road elements with robotic borrowings. The face of the BW 125 is shaped by two asymmetrical halogen round headlights in the Karl Dall look, which are located in a box-shaped housing. This has the advantage that its upper side with the flanking struts is designed as a front luggage rack. A second, sturdy carrier is integrated in the pillion grab handles, after all in Asia a scooter is a real commercial vehicle. Another overhead locker lurks under the bench for cargo.

Even if BW stands for Big Wheels, the BW’s 125 uses standard 12-inch rims. A 120/70 tire is fitted at the front and a 130/70 tire at the rear. However, both have a rough profile. Together with a slightly increased ground clearance and cladding parts made of unpainted plastic around the hatch, off-road driving should definitely be possible. Disc brakes on both wheels in combination with ABS ensure deceleration. A digital display in the cockpit provides information and a USB socket supplies power to small mobile devices.

Extremely economical four-stroke

On the drive side, the Yamaha BW’s 125 uses a liquid-cooled 125 four-stroke engine with variable valve control. Performance data are not mentioned, but emphasis is placed on the fact that the little engine is extremely economical with fuel. In combination with a tank volume of six liters, such a large range should be possible.

The BW’s 125 has a length of 1.92 meters, the seat height is specified as 785 millimeters, the curb weight with 127 kilograms.

In Taiwan, the new Yamaha BW’s 125 will be available in four colors from November 4, 2020 for the equivalent of around 2,600 euros. He couldn’t make the leap to Europe, but he did make the jump to Japan. There, however, the BW will then compete with a 150 four-stroke engine.
