After having spectacularly rejuvenated and electrified the mid-range (MT-09) then the entry-level (MT-07), the MT range now exerts its influence in the 125 section. And the machine seems motivated to be noticed. The headlight alone is more plumb than that of the MT-09; a small mix of the latter’s optics with a sharp dose of that of an XJ6 results in a look that speaks volumes. It wants to bite as much as it stings. Yamaha has done things well for this bike and wins largely on the style: the side scoops, the LED position and tail lights, the engine spoiler, the sport rims with sticks, a certain size.
Sporty the MT-125? Like a brother of the YZF-R 125. Indeed, the small MT is built on the basis of the mini R1. The riding position is however less exclusive: the specific shape of the tank, the handlebars raised by 10 cm and moved back 35 mm and the saddle a bit lower raises the bust while ensuring an almost muscular attitude..
More conciliatory in terms of comfort, the MT-125 does not let go on the other hand on the technical side. Deltabox steel frame, large 41 mm inverted fork, single disc brake with radial brake caliper at the front, same suspension travel, same tires…. we can count on the same rigor as that of the YZF-R 125 from the point of view of the chassis. Agility should be a cut above. The handlebars offering a better lever arm, the caster angle revised to 33 ° 5 and the 2 kilos less of the roadster will slightly change the behavior..
The engine does not undergo any change. The 124.7 cc 4-valve 4-stroke single-cylinder engine produces power identical to the sports car, ie 15 horsepower at 9,000 rpm. The observation is identical for the torque, ie 1.25 mkg at 8000 rpm. The speedometer block to monitor your pulse and all the useful information is also taken from the YZF-R 125. Only the exhaust is entitled to a small overhaul to increase ground clearance. Would he want to fight this MT-125? He’s got the hang of it and the mill only has 138 kilos to lift. A little anecdote that is good for morale, this bike will be assembled in the French MBK factory in St Quentin.
Since mid-2015, the small MT can be optionally equipped with ABS. A little extra for safety on delicate ground which is sanctioned by a few euros and 2 kilos to add.
