Yamaha XSR 900 2017

During a night out with girlfriends, the MT-09 realized that she could do more, even more. The Tracer, Street Rally and Sport Tracker episodes opened up new horizons for him, but the desire was even deeper. One night of nostalgia, after a glass of Super, a poster of the Sex-pistols and a few quickly swallowed bolts, she got lost in a poker night with the MT-07 and the XSR 700. And bang, the click. The evidence was there.

A phone call to the Yamaha sire later, the MT-09 went to the Faster Sons workshop to become the XSR 900. Using the same recipe as the female poker players. It’s all about the dress, the wit, and a bit of daring. Except that the XSR 900 goes further.
First, keep the best. You might as well take advantage of the attributes that make the success of the MT-09 line. The big XSR retains the aluminum frame and swingarm, the 41mm inverted fork, the braking system (dual disc, 4-piston radial calipers, ABS) and its excellent 3-cylinder crossplane engine. Full, lively, angry and playful, the CP3 is a treat. We forget its 115 horses to benefit from its behavior and especially its respondent. Originally, it is supported by several injection maps, the D-MODE. On the XSR, Yam added traction control. A delicacy that could infuriate the family. Here, the guardrail is adjustable on 3 levels: mini, maxi, or off. On the Tracer, it’s on or off. As for the standard MT-09, it is not even entitled to it. And then, even if it means freaking out the sis and limiting that of the pilot, you might as well intervene on the clutch. An A&S anti-dribble absorbs excess torque during heavy downshifts. The suspensions have not changed but are re-calibrated to suit its identity. Except that the original shock absorber of the MT-09 is really limited in its performance. Changing it would have been smarter.

On the technical side, we know we’re going to have fun. On the look side, the XSR contrasts radically with the MT-09. The neo-retro atmosphere suits him particularly well. It is less aggressive than the MT and is almost more harmonious in its forms. In any case, the personality is more marked. The round front and rear headlights, like the mirrors, are stitched to the XSR 700. The speedometer too, but its colors are reversed. The tank benefits from a specific dressing which actively participates in the identity. As for the saddle, it promises to be a little more comfortable and a more upscale finish with its stitching..
Too bad, the manufacturer could not hide certain elements. The plastic boxes on the shoulders of the frame, it makes it average. On the other hand, the aluminum plates, it does it well. An openwork series holds the headlight, another customizes the rear frame. Other parts support the front fender. Aluminum isn’t just in the frame; it makes up the parts already mentioned as well as the tank covers and the rear fender. Well seen, Yamaha only added small plates on the sides of the radiator to make an effect, and did not overload it as on the XSR 700. Note the polished muffler tip, contrasting with the exhaust line. all black.

The XSR 900 doesn’t just come with a mouth and a pipe. Like all the friends and competitors who are victims of fashion, she has her own little universe, made up of accessories, clothes, and Yard Built pieces so that everyone can create HIS vision of the XSR.

You know what ?!? Mr yamaha, fit him a pair of handlebars, a single seat, an XJR 1300 Racer fork crown, a sportier looking exhaust, Ohlins suspensions and you would make a great cafe-racer, not at all retro , totally new, and adorned with a formidable efficiency / pleasure cocktail.
