It’s beautiful, it’s serious, and it leaves no doubt as to the objectives of the Yam. Surprisingly, however, the fork can only be adjusted with spring preload. Apart from that, the production and the finish are very good. The new Yam pleases and knows how to please. She is waiting for you to reveal her talents.
Discovery of the driving position, grip and surprise: the driving position is not that exclusive. Moderate pressure on the forearms, well-placed controls and adjustable in distance, switch to reserve by electric switch, half-handlebars higher than the standard of today’s sports cars, leading finish, the Yam knows how to accommodate his pilot. On the track, the high positioning of the aforementioned handlebars is somewhat restrictive, not allowing perfect movement of the body. This, we do not care when we taste the mechanics of the YZF.
What is immediately bluffing is the impressive flexibility delivered by this block. Stalled almost at idle speed on the last report, the boiler starts again smoothly. Very well. And the end of the end is the box that accompanies this mill. In general, we muscle the tip of the foot by handling a Yam box. Not with that of the YZF 750. This transmission is a real treat, at the same time precise, fast and very smooth. It should be the same on all models struck by the triple tuning fork.
If the 4 cylinders shines by its smoothness, it is also frankly well filled for a 750. Unlike those of the ZXR and GSX-R, it has watts from 4000 rpm (cool the EXUP). Overall, this mechanism is very available and very pleasant, although a little too linear in its revving. At 8,500 revs, the thruster accelerates its ascent to finally lose its breath at around 11,000 revs (Damn clamping …). You can still push it up to 13,000 but only for the draw – in full power that’s another story.
With its powerful boiler which does not hesitate to come and tease a certain 900 from Honda, the YZF seems to have come out of the game. But it has not yet cut all its cards. The other striking force of the Yam is its lightness (more than 10 kgs less than the competition), its homogeneity, and above all its efficiency. I can already see them drooling with their eyes shining. Let them calm down: if the machine is easy to handle, it is nevertheless necessary to know how to handle the handlebars with experience to exploit its potential. The YZF 750 is above all a formidable precision tool. The chassis as the braking are of a very high level. The genes of the OW 01 are present in this machine which brakes hard, very hard, with all the feeling and resistance to heating. The chassis is certainly one of the best on the market and does an impressive job on the track. It is also remarkable on the open road, where the only disapproval it communicates is the sensitivity to steering on degraded asphalt. Admittedly very agile, the bike is similar to a professional machine: you can do an excellent job with it, provided you are of its level and know how to handle it. The Yam goes fast, and has no time to waste with sandbox players.
Also in suspensions, the YZF is well off. Its cushioning knows how to combine comfort with efficiency; for a sportswoman, I mean. Moreover, its very limited protection and its not really tender saddle do not betray this philosophy..
Yamaha took its time to give the answer to Kawa and Suz in 750. So much the better, because the product presented is very successful and superbly efficient. The engine and gearbox are a real success, the chassis allows pilots to master the track, and its performance is remarkable. Afterwards, either you are a handlebar pro and you like the helmet that pushes your vertebrae, or you will have to be less demanding with yourself.
YZF in racing sauce, it exists and it is called SP (Sport Production). In terms of modifications, we note a tighter gearbox staging, 39 mm Keihin carbs, a fully adjustable fork, an ignition map that takes into account the opening of the throttle and the engine speed, and a passing weight. to 192 kg.
