Yamaha 850 TRX 1997

Tubular trellis frame, twin-cylinder engine, sporty trend – do you think of a Ducati? Lost, you are in the presence of a Yamaha. The TRX is a truly original model. It uses the engine of the 850 TDM, a parallel twin which sees its setting modified to 270 °. If the mill is more expressive than on the Yam trail-road, it is fishing for its lack of flexibility and a too long first gear. Above all, it does not have the playful and captivating character of the L-shaped twins. Not recommended in the city, the bike is more interesting and efficient on the secondary network … As long as it is tamed. The machine tends to rise when braking on the angle. Effective, the double disc can require a certain attention if it is requested too frankly. No worries in standard use. The trellis frame recalls that of the Bologna productions. Driving the TRX is fun, although this sports car is not as lively as machines with more “Japanese” geometry (aluminum perimeter frame and in-line 4 cylinders). The front axle ensures but can be confusing for the uninitiated to this type of motorcycle. This sport “apart” is rather a good bike but its ambiguous position, its lack of image and its more marginal driving have isolated it quite a bit. Originality does not always pay off in the field of temperament machines.
