2018 World Supersport Drivers’ Statements at Donington Park
The sixth round of the WorldSSP 2018 took place this weekend at Donington Park (Great Britain). In order to complete our almost live report, Site gives you the main reactions of the Supersport drivers at the end of the British race.. Do you speak French ?
Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – have already been able to follow Saturday and Sunday, almost live, the unfolding of the 2018 World Superbike and Supersport races on the Motorland Aragon circuit. For latecomers:
Below are the statements of the drivers who animated the Supersport race on Sunday. Honor to the winner !
Sandro Cortese (Yamaha n ° 11), 1st:
“It was a perfect weekend. We had a good pace from the start. We had some difficulties in qualifying but made some big changes from yesterday to get the bike ready to fight for the win. It was a good morning and in the race I felt I was strong enough and I attacked after a few laps. I had a very good pace and I really enjoyed racing today at Donington. A great one. thanks to my team who did a perfect job. I can’t wait to go to Brno now ".
Jules Cluzel (Yamaha n ° 16), 2nd:
"Super happy to be on the podium again! It was a rather complicated race for me. I got off to a good start (from pole position, editor’s note!), I found myself in front and I tried to to print my race pace, to apply myself, except that I had a lot of difficulties entering turns with the front, and not bad also with the rear when exiting … We made a mistake of choice Sandro Cortese had chosen others, he was the only one on the podium with this selection: he did a good job, for my part I could not do better. I’m happy to have finished scoring the maximum possible points ".
Raffaele de Rosa (MV Agusta n ° 3), 3rd:
"I’m happy because we are consistent. The team worked hard all weekend to get me to the front. I got off to a good start for this race and tried to follow Sandro. But that’s it. ‘is complicated towards the end because the bike was sliding a lot, a little too much … I usually have more feeling with the front, this time I had less. I’m happy, but we want more sure".
Randy Krummenacher (Yamaha n ° 21), 4th:
“It was a tough race. Like I said, I feel better than Imola, but I’m not yet in great shape. I started fourth with a setup more focused on distance than attack. So I couldn’t give it my all when I took off from the grid, but I gained some important places and brought back the precious points for the title fight. Unfortunately I had a problem with rear grip at a few laps from the end, and it cost me time: I could have finished with a better result. But it’s okay in the end, I’m third in the standings but we are all very close, so my fight for the title continues . We are now looking to the future and hope that I will be in great shape for the next round in Brno, Czech Republic on June 10th "..
Lucas Mahias (Yamaha n ° 144), 5th:
"I’m not very happy because we suffered from a similar problem to the last few races. I don’t know why I don’t have a good feeling with my R6 when the temperature rises, but we will continue to work to find a solution. I’m disappointed that’s for sure, because Federico (Caricasulo, his teammate, Editor’s note) and I had an excellent pace all weekend but, as everyone could see, we suffered from more temperatures. hot during the race. The last races were difficult for me and the championship is also complicated because I went from the lead, to fourth place 12 points behind the leader (Cortese, Editor‘s note). We have to try to find a solution before Brno, which is a very different circuit than Donington: if we are not careful we could have a hard time with the big terrain. We will look at the data and work hard to come back stronger! "
Sheridan Morais (Kawasaki n ° 32), 9th:
"I’m happy with the progress we’ve made with the bike. But the concern we had this weekend was to stop the bike: it was a problem at the start when I was trying to overtake and gain positions. I kept widening and losing even more positions. That was the only difficulty and we started to regain places after that, I had to pass in the fast corners. struggled a bit with my forearms because I had to apply pressure on the brakes. But I think this track was really tough on the bike, for its braking. I’m happy with the machine, but disappointed to not fit at home than with a Top 10 "
Andrew Irwin (Honda # 12), 10th:
“It was a good weekend, one more step in the right direction. I think I repeat myself every time but we keep climbing steps and as long as we keep improving, not regressing, then that’s the main thing. I’m happy to reach my first Top 10, I know how competitive this category is and a Top 10 is not easy. The facts speak for themselves: I was near the Top 20 in Thailand, 20th in Aragon and we kept going up so we are definitely going in the right direction. I think I am working well with my team leader Kor and the mechanic Matia. The team are working hard to help me progressing and I love that feeling that they want me to keep moving forward, as much as I want. I can’t wait to go to Brno now. ".
Christophe Guyot: Corentin Perolari (Yamaha n ° 24), 15th:
"Corentin had a solid race. His pace is really encouraging for the rest of the season. We are continuing to develop our Yamaha R6 for the next race in Misano (Italy). We know what to work on to put Corentin in optimal condition and that he is able to increase his level of aggressiveness. Congratulations to Sandro Cortese and to Michael Van der Mark who becomes the first rider to win in the World Superbike category on the new Yamaha R1 ".
