Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – have already been able to follow Saturday and Sunday, almost live, the unfolding of the 2018 World Superbike and Supersport races on the Brno circuit. For latecomers:
Below are the statements of the drivers who distinguished themselves on Sunday during the second Superbike round. Honor to the winner !
Alex Lowes (Yamaha # 22), 1st:
"The first thing I must say is a big thank you to Yamaha, to the team and especially to Paul (Denning, boss of the official Yamaha team, Editor’s note)) who believed in me and led me British Superbike so far. All the guys have worked so hard to give me what I wanted on the bike. It’s fantastic to win, and to secure the double for Yamaha with Michael. From a personal point of view , I’m so happy. Donington was hard to swallow (Lowes struggled to finish his races properly, Editor’s note), Michael had nothing to do with it, but it was hard for me to accept because I wanted to bring its first victory to the team, because I invested myself so much in the project (the first year alongside a certain Sylvain Guintoli who gave the new R1 its first podium, Editor’s note). worked out well for me today, really enjoyed the run which is not easy when it is so hot and slipping so much! centered on being as gentle and consistent as possible. And I’m in heaven now. Many thanks to Yamaha, I feel honored to be part of this project. We have to keep trying to win more races! "
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 2nd:
“This morning during warm-up, we tried to change something on the bike to have a better feeling with the front. But it was worse in the end, so we went back to yesterday‘s setting. We chose a tire. before different and at the start of the race I struggled to get a good feeling. Alex passed me, then Marco passed me but he made a mistake. I followed Alex who had a great pace , and we managed to get away from third, which made me happy. I tried to get closer to Alex and fight to win. I got there, but in the last laps it was ‘is shown stronger. I am very happy with this podium and very happy for Alex who won his first victory ((two weeks after VDMark won his, Editor’s note!). I think it’s a nice final for the whole ‘Pata Yamaha Superbike team ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 3rd:
“We finally made progress after two difficult days where we struggled with the set-up and the low levels of grip. Although I didn’t have the best feeling yet, it was enough to maintain my position and not drop down in the standings in end of the race. We want to do better, but I’m really happy to be back on the podium. It’s important for the morale of the team: we will persevere, without giving up. It’s my "thank you "to my team who worked so hard. We have recovered a few points from our rivals in the championship (2nd with 65 points behind Rea, editor’s note), but the priority is to get the feeling back to 100%. We hope to raise our level soon".
Eugene Laverty (Aprilia n ° 50), 4th:
"It was a great result for the team today: Lorenzo and I were fighting for fourth and fifth place. We knew there was something to be done, and we did it. My goal today ‘hui was the podium. We weren’t too far in the end, but I just didn’t have enough pace. It was warmer today, so I had a little less grip in the back, and my pace was a little slower. We will continue like this for Laguna Seca, continue to attack. Fourth is good, but I really desperately want to get back on the podium. It has been four years since has not arrived, and the whole team deserves a result. So we have a clear goal for the United States. ".
Leon Camier (Honda n ° 2), 7th:
“The start of the race was a bit difficult, until I found my rhythm. We had made a few changes which worked well during the Warm-Up, but the start was tricky with the hot conditions. and as the race progressed I was able to adapt. Even when the tire performance dropped I managed to maintain my pace. This weekend we weren’t fast enough to challenge the Top five. But if we keep this momentum going, and work on the necessary areas of the bike, I really think better results will come soon. ".
Loris Baz (BMW n ° 76), 11th:
“It was a race just like our weekend. We have big grip issues at the rear and the tire wears out much faster than the others, so I compensate as much as possible with the front. C ‘It’s like that … Today it was about doing the best with the tools we have. I fought as much for 11th as for the victory. We tried different settings that didn’t not worked and I think we are not far from exploiting the full potential of the bike. It’s frustrating, but we have to live with it. There are some circuits that suit us better than others, like us. saw in Donington. Regarding Laguna Seca, I have no idea what to expect but I know the bike had some difficulties last year. I know this track and enjoy it very much . I hadn‘t been very fast there, but this will be the occasion to do better than in the past ".
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), fall and 15th:
“Our pace today was good enough to get the win so finishing 15th is disappointing. It’s really bad luck because I felt good and once in the lead I tried to push more hard to pull away, but the rear brake pedal broke and I had to swerve at turn 3. I still wanted to finish the race to collect important information before Laguna Seca. The good side is that. is that we have regained our confidence by improving the stability of the bike. So I look forward to the next round, where we can surely fight for good results. ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), fall and 16th:
“It was disappointing not to score in the second run, but overall over the weekend I’m not too disappointed. I think we made some progress after the first race. We got off to a good start. . I have a distinct feeling that we could have started to attack and got closer to Eugene and Chaz. We had the pace to run ahead. I can’t say what the result would have been, but we had the bike and the equipment. to ride at the forefront under these conditions. I fell while trying to overtake. I had good cornering speed and was about to pull up the bike to fill up the speed towards turn 11 and diving in. I lost the front when accelerating. Losing the front when you hit the accelerator is not common..
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), crash and retirement:
"It has been a great weekend for many reasons, but today unfortunately we were not able to finish it as we wanted. We have to consider that we have extended our lead in the championship, and that is the point. positive that I can hold on to today. I felt very comfortable in the first laps. I had asked the mechanics to write "smooth" on the board It was an 18-lap race and my pace throughout the weekend was a cut above everyone else, so I was in no rush to join the front lines and gain ground. At first everyone was in a rhythm, within two minutes low or medium: I had no problem with that rhythm. But what happened ruined my race (touch / collision (?) With his teammate Sykes, that Rea did not fail to applaud from the edge of the track a lap later, Editor’s note!). This round was very short for me, I didn’t so not much to say about it ".
Jordi Torres (MV Agusta n ° 81), fall and retirement:
“This weekend did not go as we expected. I had some physical issues throughout the weekend, which kept me from riding the bike the way I wanted. Despite that, we had had the opportunity to test some parts for the next races. We are closing this page, now I want to focus on the next race and try to reward the team with the best possible performance ".
