Site readers – who, as everyone knows, are a little more fortunate than others – have already been able to follow Saturday and Sunday, almost live, the unfolding of the 2018 World Superbike and Supersport races on the Misano circuit. For latecomers:
Below are the statements of the drivers who distinguished themselves on Sunday during the second Superbike round. Honor to the (double) winner !
Jonathan Rea (Kawasaki n ° 1), 1st:
“It was a super, super tough race. Yesterday, I controlled the race: I was able to take the lead, get my pace and escape. Today, I couldn’t do it and I must have expended so much on tires and energy to pull up traffic. The bikes are leveled so well now that it is so difficult to launch an attack and pull it off. Getting back on Mikey was a hell of a job and when I got there I got there, I started to panic a bit with the five laps to complete. I already wanted to be in the lead and get ahead. I was afraid to miss because of a mistake. But he turned a bit wide in the last corner and I was able to pass him under acceleration and then put his brakes on in turn 1. I passed a lot during this race. There was really a lot of work. ".
Michael van der Mark (Yamaha n ° 60), 2nd:
"I didn’t have a great start so I followed Xavi Fores for a few laps. I think he had a problem and passed him. Once in front I tried to ride on my own. pace. I thought I could be a little faster, but it was difficult in these hot temperatures. I saw that the three riders behind were in a big fight, so I tried to stay as consistent as possible. J I managed to get a bit ahead, but Johnny Rea got closer. He finally passed me when I made a small mistake. I was able to follow him and stay close to him on the last two laps , but I didn’t have enough resources to overtake him. I’m a little disappointed to miss out on winning, but second place is really good for the championship. And it’s a nice way to approach the holidays summer ".
Marco Melandri (Ducati n ° 33), 3rd:
“It was a super fun race. After a so far difficult and unlucky weekend we finally found with the team an ideal setup for the new front tire. Unfortunately we were unable to run in FP3 and FP4 (rain then technical glitch, Editor’s note), which penalized us in the first round. But today we redeemed ourselves. I felt at ease on the bike, I could be aggressive and I delivered a nice battle with Rea, although it made us lose a bit of ground on VDMark. I wanted to attack towards the end, but after some hot weather, I realized that we were too close to the limit. well, it’s nice to go on vacation on a podium and I’m sure we’ll soon win again ".
Chaz Davies (Ducati n ° 7), 4th:
“I felt like I could play for the win today. We fought well at the start, but after five or six laps we started to struggle unexpectedly against the rear grip. disappointed as we made a few changes after the first run but we did not go in the right direction. Having said that overall it was a very good weekend, solid, much better than last year, so I can’t complain. In the last two races we’ve been consistent and we’ve discovered a few important details. Going into the summer break and missing out on the podium is going to give us a little more guts for all four last tests ".
Tom Sykes (Kawasaki n ° 66), 5th:
“We made a big progress today in terms of performance, and we felt a lot better with the chassis. It’s a shame we didn’t use this fork earlier in the weekend. I couldn’t adjust the bike in some areas and I sacrificed a bit of performance. In a lot of parts the bike was running great. We just lost the grip on the angle which is weird because the times laps were really consistent throughout the race. I lost a lot of time at the start, tried to attack on new tires but couldn’t. The performance of the bike compared to yesterday were however much better ".
Alex Lowes (Yamaha # 22), 6th:
"The weekend started very well on Friday but I had a very difficult day yesterday (Saturday, in Superpole and first round in particular, Editor‘s note), so starting from 6th place instead of 12th was a good thing. didn’t feel very comfortable in the race yet: I got off to a very good start and had some nice first laps, so I expected to fight a little higher, but it wasn’t my day. I take the points anyway and I’ll try to remember the lessons of the weekend, even those from yesterday because there is also to learn. It was nice to see Michael climb another podium on a different track with the Yamaha . We’re here every weekend now. We haven’t quite got the best of Misano, but I’m happy to score points today. ".
Lorenzo Savadori (Aprilia n ° 32), 7th:
"The first part of the second round was tough, and it’s always an area where I have problems. The front tire and the full fuel tank made the bike difficult to ride and I couldn’t attack. . I lost too much time on the lead guys, my pace at the halfway point wasn’t that bad and I got closer to Lowes towards the end, but I was too far to catch up. I am sure that improving this point will help me a lot to fight. The Portimao test will be very useful, and I hope to solve my problems at the start of the race. The summer is long, but I know the team will work very hard. hard to make us fast. I want to thank them for all their hard work "
Loris Baz (BMW n ° 76), 9th:
"We were far on the grid and I preferred not to take too many risks on the first corners. I managed to overtake Leon Camier and quickly came back to Eugene Laverty. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the same feeling only since the start of the weekend. I thought it came from the full fuel, but my feelings did not change during the race. This is the first time of the year that I have been riding with the leader in line sights, that’s rather a good thing. I lost contact with Laverty, but I still managed to contain Camier, despite a few passes. We finished at 13 seconds, it is the largest gap. weak since the start of the year. We may have dreamed too much of a podium … On one lap we were fast, but we didn’t have the pace to finish in the top three. ‘A Top 5 was within our grasp. I did the best I could, but it was still our best race. So far been very frustrating and complicated. We were hoping our package would get us into the Top 5, but everyone has come a long way. We got some improvements, but it’s not enough compared to the others. It’s frustrating because I know I’m capable of winning, I’m convinced of that. It is also part of a career as a pilot to do your best when everything is not together in order to bounce back! "
Leon Camier (Honda n ° 2), 10th:
“Today’s race was pretty much the same as yesterday: the second half was good, but I lost too much time in the early laps on the new tires. As the race progressed, I was able to slowly catch up with Baz in front of me, but overall this weekend our bike was not as competitive as we hoped. We have a good idea of the improvements to be made to the fireblade so the next month’s tests will be very important to us ".
Xavi Fores (Ducati n ° 12), retirement:
"I’m really disappointed because the start was great and I was extremely confident. By keeping our pace in the Warm-up we could certainly fight for the podium. Unfortunately for us the race ended too early. (technical glitch on his Panigale Rrrrr, Editor’s note) Scoring a "zero" is not a good way to go on vacation, but on the other hand, I can say that we are again as competitive as at the beginning of season".
