The Brno circuit in the Czech Republic has a fairly long development (5.403 km), causing lap times close to 2 minutes and a number of laps to go reduced to 21 loops. The track – integrated into the calendar in 1965 – is quite wide (15 m) and fluid, with more turns to the right (eight, against six to the left).

Its longest straight line measures only 636 meters, but it is nevertheless a layout of "engine" because it presents many fast turns which require strong acceleration … and traction to be able to exploit them! The ten front slicks brought by Michelin are also put to the test on some very marked braking because of the drop. 

It was on this technical track that Max Biaggi had failed to turn around in 1998 on his overpowered Honda 500cc 2-stroke by celebrating his victory in the premier class ahead of Criville and Barros with a memorable wheeling on the finish line at (re) watch below! It was 20 years ago…

At the same time, a certain Valentino Rossi was beginning – already – to make a lot of talk about him: the Italian, hereafter also in wheelie on a scooter – without a helmet and in shorts! – on the Imola circuit (Italy) in 1997, finished his first 250cc season in 1998 in second place before winning the title the following year. A year later, in 2000, the two transalpines found themselves in queen class…

The Czech Republic GP comes after three weeks of summer break and will also be the scene of a new day of post-race practice reserved for MotoGP. Hostilities will begin on Friday at 9:00 am with the Moto3 FP1s, followed by the MotoGP and Moto2 categories. The MotoGP race is scheduled for Sunday at 2:00 p.m. (all times below).
