Honda 125 cc motorcycles and scooters evolve with Euro4
Due to Euro4 standards, Honda is upgrading its 125 cc range of motorcycles and scooters which includes the CB125F, MSX125, SH125, Forza 125 and the NSC110 Vision. All include a less polluting engine and assisted braking of the combined or ABS type, compulsory in 2017.
CB125F: CBS in series for 2017
The, the youngest of the "Cebe" family, meets Euro4 standards thanks to modifications to the exhaust and the injection of its 124.7 cc air-cooled single cylinder. Coupled with a 5-speed gearbox, this robust and wise engine delivers 10.6 hp and 10.2 Nm of torque and would consume only "1.95 l / 100 km", according to Honda..
Another change imposed by Euro4 beneficial to the CB125F: the addition as standard of a combined braking system CBS, which distributes the force between its front disc of 240 mm and its rear drum of 130 mm. Remember that only two-wheelers over 125 cc must receive ABS from January 1, 2017, European legislation authorizing the use of a coupled system on displacements less than or equal to 125 cc.
The small Honda 128 kg roadster in running order also gains an engaged gear indicator and new colors: metallic blue "Onyx", white "Pearl Sunbeam" and red "Candy Blazing". The CB125F will be available next February, at an estimated price per MNC of € 2,650.
MSX125: ABS as standard
No major upheavals for the, this distant descendant of the 1963 Monkey launched in 2013 then essentially revised at the aesthetic level in. In accordance with Euro4, this 2017 vintage adopts a series ABS which increases its price to € 3,600. This is starting to get expensive for this little toy of 125 cc certainly fun, but with a field of action as small as its size….
Forza 125: real positive changes with Euro4
The very popular is offering notable developments with its switch to Euro4, starting with fully LED lighting, standard ABS and reassembled indicators for better visibility. Comfort would also improve thanks to a new calibration of the rear springs, while Michelin City Grip tires now ensure the original fitment..
From a practical point of view, the competitor n ° 1 to the famous is equipped with a very useful hands-free starting system via a remote control, which also activates the gas hatch and the opening of the saddle under which the two full face helmets. What to reinforce the "Premium" side of this bestseller … to the detriment of the already pretty price in 2016 since the Forza 125 goes from 4,799 to 4,949 € in 2017. To be compared to some 650 or 700 cc motorcycles accessible for less of 7000 euros, like the or !
At the mechanical level, the water-cooled single cylinder of 15 hp and 12.5 Nm receives the necessary modifications to meet Euro4 standards as well as a longer transmission ratio to improve its peri-urban capabilities. This unit renews its practical "Idling Stop" system, which cuts the engine after stopping for three seconds – brake maintained – and restarts it as soon as the accelerator is activated..
The tubular steel frame is unchanged, as are the seat height of 780 mm, the 15 and 14 inch wheels and the disc brakes. Three new colors complete the 2017 color chart of this 159 kg scooter in running order: black-gray, gray-brown and gray-blue.
SH125: practical aspects on the rise
Very popular in Italy, the meets a more contrasted success in France because of its large 16-inch wheels, certainly beneficial in terms of stability but synonymous with less storage space under the saddle. This does not prevent Honda from having sold "more than 14,000 units from January to September 2016", ie the best performance in the segment. !
Building on this success, the winged crest enhances its best-seller by strengthening its practical aspects: as for the Forza 125 above, the 2017 SH125 now receives full LED lighting, ABS and the "Honda Smart Key" which allows you to start the water-cooled single cylinder without inserting a key (via a remote control-transponder to keep on your person).
Honda has also taken advantage of the new design to provide additional space in the glove box and even insert a 12V socket. At the mechanical level, the new injection map and the revised exhaust ensure the transition to Euro4 while slightly boosting performance, now 12.2 hp (+1.3 hp) and 11.5 Nm (+0.5 Nm).
The Idling Stop, automatic cut-off and restart system, is naturally renewed because of its benefits on polluting emissions and consumption, announced at only "2.11 l / 100 km". MNC also appreciates the sound comfort provided by this device commonly called "Stop and start": imagine how quiet city centers would be if all engines were put on standby in this way at each red light. !
Finally, aware of the traditional reluctance towards large wheels, Honda is offering its 2017 SH125 with standard top case at "around € 3,500", the French subsidiary tells us. The big brother of the SH125, the, also receives most of these evolutions for 2017.
NSC110 Vision: Another Look at Utility…
The, which has the essential but not very glamorous role of "utility scooter" at Honda, displays higher claims in 2017 thanks in part to a new design very clearly inspired by the "cousin" SH125. Its revised geometry and new equipment such as the "Idlind Stop" system described above complete this interesting transformation..
Its 108 cc air-cooled single cylinder upgrades to Euro4 while gaining performance thanks to a new mapping. Not enough to risk pulling the arms out, since its power goes from 8.4 to 8.8 hp and its torque from 8.7 to 9 Nm! Still, this gain, even minimal, will promote the relaunch of this practical scooter whose flat floor is enlarged by 15 mm and widened by 40 mm.
Honda has also added a larger 16-inch front wheel (14 at the rear), as well as a 35 mm fork (+4 mm). The caster angle opens on passage from 26.5 to 27 °: all elements which suggest a better stability of the front axle for this scooter easy to handle in traffic jams because light (102 kg in running order).
Two additional storage spaces are added in front of the knees, while the total width decreases by 10 mm. Finally, CBS coupled braking is installed as standard, in accordance with Euro4 requirements, on this scooter available in gray, white and red. Unsurprisingly, the price of this Vision 110 2017 increases slightly from 2149 to 2439 €.
The PCX 125 also meets Euro4 standards
To close this file on the 2017 Honda 125 cc range, let us finally recall that the – "low cost" scooter but at – has passed Euro4 standards since .
