A custom looks like a Harley, that’s how it is. Even if many manufacturers and variations strive to offer more powerful, more fun, different or striking machines, we always come back to an ersatz that corresponds closely or remotely to a Harley.. This does not take away from the fact that you can find better in the competition of Milwaukee, but … Style dictates this law.
Honda has shaken all that up a bit with this funny custom: the CTX 700 N. A new concept, which the manufacturer defines as “Comfort Technology eXperience”. An interesting cocktail of ideas shaken by a strange mix of design. Obviously the son of the hapless DN-01 and the NC 700 S, although Honda more readily associates him with the 1800 Goldwing. Except that here, no 6 cylinders or aluminum perimeter frame. Most of the chassis and engine come from the NC 700 roadster. Therefore, no V-twin as is customary. Make way for a 670 cm3 with its in-line bowls, its power in orbit of the 50 nags and its high lymphatic regimes. A sober mechanism, far from the straightening of the skull, but which takes on another dimension on a custom. By comparing it, we see that the twin is more powerful than that of a Shadow 750, with torque values not so far apart. Special feature of this engine: its almost horizontal layout frees up a lot of space above and accommodates a trunk in the false tank, unfortunately too small to contain a helmet.
As for the NC 700 and the VFR 1200, the CTX can be optionally equipped with the DCT robotic gearbox, with double clutch and automatic or sequential management of gears..
No mystery either side part-cycle, largely taken from NC 700. The frame with the tubular steel profile has just been somewhat redesigned to lower the seat height (720 mm) and increase the wheelbase. A distance between the wheels of 1529 mm, which is only 4 mm more than the NC-S. Still, it seems a lot longer than that; magic of forms and style. Braking comes down to the minimum necessary, one disc per wheel, but valiantly supported by the reinforcement of the ABS as standard. Honda plays the safety card to the full with this chassis: anti-lock, very low center of gravity, stability. And to conquer the public, remarkable comfort, delicate driving and first-rate handling. Above all, thanks to the economies of scale and the removal of organs from the NC series (frame, engine, headlight, fork, brakes, etc.), the CTX 700 N appears at only $ 6,999 in the States , or approximately 5,400 of our euros. His arrival in France? Its semi-streamlined cousin is entitled to it but the N is not yet announced in the catalog..
