BMW Concept-bikes are never trivial. With the exception of the Vision Next 100, all recent prototypes heralded imminent production models – the “Pink Lake” for the R NineT Urban G / S, the “101” for the K 1600 B, the “Stunt” for the G 310 R, the “Ninety” for the R nineT Racer… Will it be the same for this 9cento?!? Delicate and almost certain to say, because the machine cleverly plays with an exercise-style silhouette to the point of highlighting a possible production launch. Without forcing too much on the imagination, we quickly understand where the German brand wants to take us. Towards a small S 1000 XR.
Presented at the Concours d’Elegance of the Villa d’Este, the “Nove cento” perfectly illustrates the desire for impertinence of its creators. Difficult to imagine in series but oh so exciting and formidably practical. In addition, the inner edge of each compartment is covered with the same material as the seat, thus increasing the size and comfort of the passenger seat..
In addition to the very striking design, BMW has offered its concept bike beautiful parts in machined aluminum, including a superb center console, the rear luggage rack and the footrest plates. The rear fender has forgotten its function to turn into a shark fin.
This Sport Tourer Adventure is called 9cento today. Will it transform into F 900 XR tomorrow? The brand would thus offer a beautiful machine that would perfectly support the S 1000 XR. Indeed, the big Bavarian sports trail does not lack strengths or power with its 4-cylinder derived from the S 1000 RR hypersport. But the price and the engine power can put off – 165 horsepower, that calms down !
With its twin cylinder, probably that of the reworked F 850 GS (and rebored in 900 cc?), The power promises to be less intimidating while being playful. The price would also be more accessible. BMW would come suddenly to play on the grounds of the Yamaha 900 Tracer.
