50 years motorcycle fair in Cologne: Small fireworks
The Intermot in Cologne no longer clearly plays first fiddle among the motorcycle fairs because the Milan EICMA has meanwhile pushed itself to the fore. Nevertheless, there are still almost two dozen new motorcycles to be seen in Cologne until Sunday.
It’s an endless tangle: Intermot in early October, EICMA five weeks later. As a manufacturer, what’s new on the Rhine, what’s in Lombardy? Do you take both fairs at all?? No, said the Italian manufacturer MV Agusta this year and will stay away from the Intermot. The others don’t dare, even if some of them only serve up an amuse-bouche on the Rhine while they are still preparing the multi-course menu for Milan. The Piaggio group with its brands Aprilia and Moto Guzzi thinks so, Triumph too and Harley-Davidson has only set up its “Regio” booth in Cologne and is saving the large version for Milan. It is assumed that BMW, Ducati, Kawasaki and KTM divided their favor fairly, while Suzuki and Yamaha placed strongly in Cologne. The approximately 20 new products for the motorcycles alone are definitely worth the trip to Cologne.

The comfort KTM
Among the travel enduros that are particularly popular on the German market, the presentation of the KTM 1290 Super Enduro stands out. With it, the manufacturer drives both the performance yield and the electronization in the travel enduro segment to the extreme. The new KTM has the largest displacement (1301 ccm) and most powerful (160 hp) two-cylinder engine of all two-wheeler SUVs; it was taken over from the 1290 Super Duke R and revised for more pulling power. The list of electronic helpers and convenience features is almost endless: no other manufacturer in this segment currently offers more assistance systems. Following the example of the successful BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, KTM has also given the Super Adventure a tank that has been enlarged to 30 liters and a more comfortable seating position with improved wind protection.

Aprilia is also more involved in both travel enduros. The Italians are offering a variant of their Caponord travel enduro, which is not exactly exploding in sales, with the "rallye" version. The most striking difference lies in the look, because the spoked wheels together with the front wheel, which has been enlarged from 17 to 19 inches, make the 125 hp Caponord Rallye appear much more adventurous.
Kawasaki Versys comes with bigger tank
In the travel enduro middle class, the successful Suzuki V-Strom 650 is also taking a step into the future; with spoked wheels and a revised body as well as a new luggage system (option), it looks much more adventurous. Its 69 hp 645cc V-twin has been redesigned for more torque. Conceptually not dissimilar, the Suzuki is the heavily revised Kawasaki Versys 650; It also has a much more attractive appearance, luggage transport has now been significantly improved and the tank has been enlarged from 19 to 21 liters. A stronger rear frame allows more payload, a "steam wheel" the easier adjustment of the shock absorber. The previously unsuccessful Versys 1000 has also shed its Cinderella dress and is now appearing in the styling mainstream. In addition, the chassis tuning on the Versys 1000 has been revised and it has a main stand as standard.
