Comparo CB1300S, Bandit 1250 and XJR1300: what are these last sumos worth ?
Far from the “ maxi ” 1000 cc roadsters which are increasingly sporty and demanding, Site offers you a battle between the last three real big Japanese roadsters: Honda CB1300S, Suzuki Bandit 1250 and Yamaha XJR1300… Comparative test !
Three Sumos gathered on the Dohyo
Installed side by side, the three big roadsters look great. But turning around them, notable differences in size are obvious. Like the Rikishi – the "real" name of the Sumotoris in Japan – the CB, the XJR and the Bandit compete in the same discipline but do not quite belong to the same division..
So we could compare the XJR 1300 to the "Yokozuna", the highest rank among the Sumos. Yamaha did not hesitate to adorn its roadster with a n ° 1 plaque which evokes the heyday of the XJR 1200 and its Cup (the second 1997 season of which was won by the late Bruno Bonhuil), but also the successes of Agostini, Roberts, Rossi or Lorenzo – even Spies – on the handlebars of track Yamaha !
In the opinion of all the editors, the decoration is very successful. It gives the XJR an additional presence that cannot be found on the other color available in the 2011 catalog: plain black will however be better suited to more reserved bikers..
Three-spoke gold rims and matching calipers, equally eye-catching Ohlins shock absorber combinations, aluminum swingarm and engine with many polished parts, chrome turn signal brackets, speedometers and mirrors: the Yamaha invariably attracts first glances. ” they come from bikers on the lookout or simple onlookers.
Very quickly, however, attention shifted to the Honda, also carefully prepared: rims in the same gold color, shiny engine crankcases and cylinder head cover, aluminum swingarm and Showa double shock absorber with red springs to match the paintwork. two-tone red / white glitter – beautiful – the covering.
We gladly ignore the presence on the backsplash of a simple red sticker while the tank and the semi-fairing are fully painted and varnished. In the end, the Honda rivals the Yamaha in terms of finish and look: it fully deserves its status as an "Ozeki" wrestler, n ° 2 in the Sumo hierarchy….
If one were to pursue the metaphor, the Suzuki would undoubtedly belong to the Maegashira family "(at this point, the editors advise you to read the on the official site of the Japanese Sumo Association, in order to savor all the subtlety comparisons)…
Indeed, the Suzuki impresses less when stationary: more modern – especially in terms of optics, tank and taillight – its lines swear with those more "Old School" of the Honda and Yamaha. In addition, seen from the rear, the 1250 looks like a Bandit 650: an insult for this type of motorcycles that play big arms !
Also from a finishing point of view – despite a certain effort to integrate the speedometer unit and its cables – the Suz ‘is left behind by its two competitors. Numerous electrical wires, sheaths and exposed terminals are lying around the whole motorcycle and the welds are less careful. The ransom of the floor price, no doubt…
