All Duels - Duel Honda NC750S Vs NC700S: Honda gives you the choice - The two DCT roadsters in the catalog

The new Honda NC750S is very close to its predecessor NC700S, but only the 700 is accessible to A2 licenses. These two roadsters, fitted as standard with ABS and DCT, are therefore included in the 2014 Honda motorcycle catalog.. MNC compared them … Duel !

The two DCT roadsters in the catalog

Choosing between the new NC750S or the old NC700S is far from easy, as these two roadsters are so alike. However, the young rider will not ask himself a question, since only the 700 and its 35 kW of maximum power are compatible with the .

In category A2, the NC700S therefore coldly sweeps the NC750S and wins by Ippon: "Soremade"! But for the holder of the license A, the question remains unanswered: should you buy the 750 or the 700? Power, label" A2 "- therefore potentially easier to sell -, price, consumption … What are the factors to take into account and what are their implications? Site investigated during a comparative test.

Presented this fall at the EICMA show in Milan, the 750 exceeds the regulatory 35 kW of the A2 license: thanks to its reaming, the in-line twin now develops 40.3 kW, or 54.8 horsepower (read our). And it is for this reason that Honda France has decided to keep the NC700S in the catalog … "paper" !

"Indeed, the NC700S no longer appears in the foreground on our official website", confirms the French press service,"but it is indeed offered this year to our customers holding the A2 license and will appear alongside the NC750S on our brochures and flyers".

On "their" official site, the Belgian managers of the Japanese brand specify more clearly, with a large asterisk, that the "35 kW / DCT version of the NC700S remains available in the catalog for A2 license holders". Smart, our neighbors from across Quevrain !

Present in Honda dealerships in 2014 therefore, the two motorcycles are "automatically" equipped with the double clutch (the famous DCT, read) as well as ABS soon to be compulsory. But this paraphernalia inevitably inflates the bill.

While at its release in 2012, the base NC700S was offered at € 5,490, the NC700S (DCT + ABS) appeared in early 2014 at € 7,199. Recall that in the meantime, the CB500F has positioned itself as the new entry-level Honda. The NC therefore represents the entry level today … DCT !

To afford the NC750S, it will take out 300 euros more than for the NC700S. With this financial extension, the customer benefits from an additional 75 cc, a transmission also lengthened and subtle alterations that only the owners of a 700, the MNC and journalists will be able to detect. !

Common to the two motorcycles "made in Japan", the finish remains perfectible in certain respects. We regret for example the lack of dressing at the level of the injection, exposed for all to see – "and with a knife", will add the paranos … or those who are angry with their neighbors ?!

Likewise, the radiator and its large cooling hose on the right side could have been dressed, because their clamps are too "rough stripping". Too bad, because other fasteners used to guide the electric cables along the frame – whose welds are not all impeccable – are very discreet.

On these motorcycles doomed to ride short distances but daily – so to ride a lot, in the end! – We also regret that the valve on the rear rim is not bent in order to simplify the control of the tire pressure. At the front, the NC equipped with a single disc fortunately make the operation extremely simple and less messy.

Still in the maintenance department, the presence of a chain transmission is enough to cringe. Without central stand (available in the accessories department for 181 euros), lubrication is difficult to do alone … If the legendary CB500 was entitled to its replacement, the indestructible NTV – cardan shaft – is still waiting … and its many fans too !

Identical at first glance, the 2014 NC700S and NC750S require careful inspection to be distinguished. In addition to the imperceptible mechanical modifications on the outside () and their stickers (elementary!), Site sleuths, Alex Eption and Matt Moissa, have retained seven notable differences…
