Duel RS4 Vs YZF-R125: the return to full six !

All Duels - Duel RS4 Vs YZF-R125: back to school with six! - 4-step frustration

With all due respect to purists, the reign of 125 4-stroke sports motorcycles is now established. We therefore organized a duel between the two sharpest representatives of this category: the new Aprilia RS4 and the Yamaha YZF-R125…. Duel 125 !

4-step frustration

With a little muscular use, we quickly reach the limits of 125 4-stroke engines. Even when whipping them, the sensations of acceleration are virtually absent. Only the pilot of the Aprilia has a little fun with his shifter (optional at 109 euros): from its big sister RSV4, it allows you to increase gears on the fly without resorting to the clutch.

It is quite brutal and causes a big jerk between the first and the second, but still funny to use.

Finally, the advantage of these 4-stroke engines is more noticeable on the side of the parents: their offspring can modify them as much as they want, they will never be able to obtain excessive power … The two single cylinders are designed to develop d ‘origin the 15 statutory horses, and not one more !

Thank you Brembo !

Braking is one of the key points in learning to ride a motorcycle. And on this level, the Yamaha is bluffing: with its elements signed Brembo, it combines power and safety thanks to a perfect feeling which allows a precise dosage..

The braking of the Aprilia RS4 is a little brutal and more delicate to dose in finesse. When the four pistons of the radial front brake caliper bite the 300mm disc, the fork plunges a little too much and the pads emit an uninviting complaint … beware of blockages in the wet !

This is how our two "sporty apprentices" should be understood: either as a pretty little rewarding motorcycle to go to work every day in style – but also a little sore wrists! -, or as a preparation for the A license and large engines.

As part of a different approach, the purchaser could quickly be disappointed to be taxed by 125 scooters, at top speed as well as when starting a fire….

Sexy utility or motorcycle school ?

Their price does not help to decide between them, since only 200 euros separate them: the Yamaha R125 manages to stall just under 4,000 euros (3,999 exactly) while the Aprilia is traded at the price of 4,199 euros.

According to the consumption recorded during this test, the Japanese is the most economical to use since it consumes one liter less per 100 km than its Italian competitor: 2.8 l / 100 km against 3.8.

And nowadays, this data is far from being negligible … Suddenly, despite a larger tank (14.5 liters against 13.8), the Aprilia has a much lower autonomy than the Yamaha: close 300 km for the RS4 and more than 350 for the R125.

Unless you swear by the look of the RSV4 or the maximum speed, it is the little sister of the R6, more pleasant on a daily basis, which wins this new duel Site !
