All Duels - Duel YZF-R1 - CBR1000RR C-ABS: Sensations or safety, two schools clash! - Reason also has its voice

In a category where performance matters, Site subjected the Yamaha R1 to the famous Cross Plane rigging and the CBR1000RR equipped with the efficient road-proof electronic ABS.. Verdict of this (hyper) sporting duel !

Reason also has its voice

When it comes time to take stock, passion competes with reason: more exclusive, demonstrative and quite frankly more exciting, the 2009 YZF-R1 delivers sensations unknown in the sports four-cylinder segment and its engine alone could be enough to tip the scales in his favor…

But the CBR1000RR combines the advantages and above all its electronic ABS drives the point home: transparent to use, the device allows sustained braking whatever the condition of the road surface and speed. Bluffing on the track, the C-ABS therefore succeeds in convincing (us) on the road: despite its excellent radial six-piston calipers, the Yamaha is not able to brake as hard and late when the road deteriorates..

Because in addition to avoiding blockages, the C-ABS also manages mass transfers wonderfully: as soon as the two front radial calipers are called upon, the rear caliper also receives a slight pressure in order to counter the plunging of the motorcycle forward.

Ultra-fast and perfectly mastered, the operation makes it possible to improve emergency braking phases, even sporting ones, since the rear wheel remains stuck to the ground, which is rarely the case when firmly gripping the only front brake! In addition, the machine gains in maneuverability and the rider in serenity: with less stress on its fork and its front tire, the CBR more easily withstands an impromptu change of trajectory..

Under these conditions (road and 106 hp) and at the risk of shocking sports enthusiasts, the Honda CBR1000RR therefore wins over the Yamaha R1. Oh, it is not a clear and flawless victory and deciding between these two dream machines was not easy! Passionately – for many the very essence of this category – the Yam ‘clearly imposes its original and exciting setting. Cross Plane with the incredible homogeneity, a bit insipid, of the Honda.

And yet, from a rational point of view, the CBR and its C-ABS stand out on the road, offering ease of operation, agility and comfort never before achieved by a Hypersport. On his handlebars, no need to force or sweat to go (very) fast. Especially since in case of optimism, the electronic ABS takes care of the grain !

This does not prevent the Honda from experiencing its share of imperfections: linear, its engine lacks sex appeal and voice, while the appearance of a gear indicator engaged and new commodos would have been appreciated on the model. 2010 (read).

Especially at € 16,690, the CBR1000RR C-ABS now competes with richly equipped and otherwise more charismatic Europeans: the Aprilia RSV4, the KTM RC8 or the Ducati 1198! A concern of the kind that is worrying also encountered by the Yamaha R1 2009 displayed at € 15,749…
