BMW C 650 GT test: the good surprise !
The new BMW C 650 GT scooter, a little eclipsed from the front of the maxiscooters scene by its sporty brother C 600 Sport, has a lot to offer: hardly less sporty but more comfortable, the BMW C 650 GT is even worth a visit. ! Test.
A real GT maxiscooter !
Besides its radically different aesthetic from the C 600 Sport, the C 650 GT also has its own technical specifics. First of all, its wide windshield, adjustable to a height of 10 cm, is electrically controlled on the left stalk (manual adjustment in 3 positions on the Sport).
Between this same windshield and the apron, there are two removable deflectors – as on the K1600 – which serve to send a stream of air towards the pilot: a priori very useful accessories during urban trips in the middle of summer. !
If the storage compartments are not much larger than on the C 600 Sport, the storage space under the saddle is much larger: logical, given the differences in size between the two models. Slightly less practical than the very flat hold of the Burgman 650, the trunk of the BMW offers a capacity of 60 liters, which is sufficient volume to slip in two full-face helmets without any problem..
For 350 euros more than the C 600 Sport (displayed at 11,100 €), the 650 GT therefore offers even more high-end equipment. And its performance can still go up by one – or even several! – notches: our test model was for example equipped with the optional pack HighLine (795 €) which includes heated saddles and grips, the RDC tire pressure indicator and LED daytime running lights.
A nice optional endowment which brings the bill to 12,245 €: a tidy sum for a scooter, however "maxi" it may be! At this price, the owner will probably not hesitate very long to add the optional alarm at 210 euros…
The main difference with the C 600 Sport lies in the ergonomics: less sporty, the driving position on the C 650 GT is a real treat of comfort and naturalness. Soft, the double-stage saddle and its adjustable rider backrest firstly offer very appreciable support for the lumbar region..
The higher handlebars mean a much more relaxed position than on the C 600 Sport, while the little ones will be reassured by a saddle height that is reduced from 810 to 780 mm.
The older ones will be able to stretch their legs more easily in "cruising" mode (feet in front). As for the passenger, he will benefit from a wider saddle, well-designed grab handles and real footrest plates (the C 600 Sport is equipped with retractable "motorcycle" type footrests).
With its 12 kg more than the C 600 Sport on the scale (261 kg in running order against 249), the C 650 GT is however a certain overweight … Even if the center of gravity is very low, vigilance s ” imposes during maneuvers at a standstill or by leveraging the control unit.
At low speed, the bluffing turning radius and the total neutrality of the management fortunately very quickly make you forget this overweight. In addition, its greater width (916 mm for the mirrors against 877 mm for the Sport) does not penalize it in the city compared to its sporty brother..
Stable and easy to position, the C 650 GT easily enters traffic while its large and legible mirrors are perched high enough to pass over those of the cars.
Admittedly, its starts at the lights are a little less lively than the handlebars of the C 600 Sport, but they remain consistent. On the other hand, the clutch "waxes" even more, which increases this latency observed on the Sport between the rotation of the handle and the moment when the machine is propelled..
