Honda CBF1000 FA test: the holy nitouche !
Effective in devil, the CBF1000 seemed so far timid and decked out in a sad dress. Thanks to a gentle redesign, she now intends to play the card of seduction, even daring, without questioning its astonishing homogeneity.. Test.
What does drunkenness matter as long as we have the bottle ?
Well aided by the lever arm offered by the wide handlebars and its very good throttle-rear wheel connection, the 2010 CBF1000FA has no trouble diving into any type of turn – although some engine inertia takes place. slightly feel at the start of a curve -, then to come out on the torque (96 Nm at 6,500 rpm) or the extension (breaker at 11,000 rpm) of its in-line four-cylinder.
Reworked to offer more torque at low and mid-range speeds, the 998 cc unit from the ultra-efficient CBR1000RR goes from 98 to 107 hp (thereby generating a slight and absurd restriction in France), while the the soft and precise box have been slightly reduced to promote reminders.
Here again, the placid Honda will hardly overshadow the old version: capable of resuming at 35 km / h in sixth at 1,500 rpm, the "four-legged" of the roadster-GT is also expressive in less than 4000 rpm than a lazy under Prozac, before delivering a sustained but linear acceleration.
Ultra-available, the engine is the perfect ally for fans of flexible piloting, who will particularly appreciate its ability to be forgotten when traveling in duo with weapons and luggage or when conditions deteriorate..
A particularly appreciable asset when the grip of the small roads taken during our test is similar to that offered by the lovingly waxed parquet of a maniacal old maid following a sudden downpour. !
In these delicate circumstances, the combined ABS braking (at the same time powerful, dosable and progressive) appears like a blessing: perfectly calibrated, it offers a capacity of slowing down and a remarkable feeling. With a little practice, it is even possible to operate only the rear brake pedal – which sends a little pressure to the front – to slow down smoothly around a curve..
Nice girl, the 2010 CBF1000FA does not claim to compete with the agility or performance of a CB1000R. But to believe that it finds itself relegated to the status of "lung" unable to roll up its sleeves would be a serious mistake: in sustained driving, the Honda indeed shows a pleasing goodwill !
If we take care to keep the engine speed above 6,000 rpm (where, unfortunately, tingling in the feet appear), it offers in particular a surprising ability to emerge very strongly from a curve. !

Unveiling then an unexpected sporty face, the CBF1000 benefits from a sufficiently high ground clearance and a control of the beneficial mass transfers at the entry of a curve – well helped by the action of the combined braking – to offer its share of grips. ” generous angles and exits from muscular curves.
Unlike some of its rivals, the Honda does not separate when the time comes for arson: a character trait it owes to its tolerant chassis and whose rigidity, as well as the agreement with the suspensions, allow unexpected fantasies … and therefore all the more enjoyable !
Some may regret that this beautiful efficiency is not accompanied by a more expansive engine. But if the revs are indeed unimpressive, the speeds reached during frank rotations of the right grip attest to the good health of the four-cylinder. !
Obvious and considerate, this new version of the 2010 CBF1000 has nothing to do with the display of sportiness that most roadsters now boast, and even some road cars. The big GT roadster of the winged brand intends rather to satisfy the needs of a more "mature" clientele, grateful for the efforts made to offer a successful and functional product … but all the same capable of surprising more one when the road begins to spin !
All without sweating a single drop and without the slightest manifestation of bad temper! From this perspective, the extreme linearity of the engine and its frank but polished acceleration can hardly be erected as faults of this new version displayed at € 10,590 (only the model with combined ABS will be imported into France).
A significant price increase (800 €) which could, at first, cause it harm commercially: Honda in fact retains the old CBF1000 – quite close in terms of aesthetics or driving pleasure – at the price of 9 € 790, and even € 8,990 until March 31, 2010 !
