All Tests - Honda SW-T600 ABS Test: the Silverwing is dead, long live the SW-T! - Road test: reconciled with the road!

Honda took two years to develop its SW-T400 in 600 cc and it was about time, because the competition was impossible to meet for the Silverwing in the segment of the big scooters. Honda SW-T600 ABS scooter first test… wet and windy !

Road test: reconciled with the road !

Thanks to its very good comfort and its unprecedented autonomy among maxiscooters – more than 300 km while going for the last drops – the SW-T600 allows you to escape the cities. Even in the rain, the rider‘s protection remains at a very high level.

Not only does the windshield protect well from the wind without creating depression, but it also channels the air onto the helmet screen, acting as a wiper. The riding position is natural: the rider can rest his lower back on the back of the saddle and choose to have his legs bent or relaxed forward.

Finally, rigor

Even if the engine remains integral with the rear wheel (unlike the Tmax and other Burgman), the progress in handling compared to the Silverwing is particularly noticeable and appreciable. More rigid but also firmer in suspension, the SW-T offers good stability even at high speed, and is much less sensitive to side wind..

If it retains a 14-inch wheel (against 15 for its competitors), the front axle is now more neutral in large curves approached a little hard. Nevertheless, on bad coating or on "grilled", it still lacks a bit of feeling to be really at the level of friends.

Braking: only good !

Honda kept a single front disc on its SW-T 600 (276 mm and 3-piston caliper). On paper we could have feared that it would be a little light to brake the 250 kg of the machine, but in reality it is not: the combined braking does its job very well. It distributes the braking force well between the front wheel and the rear wheel, while the Bridgestone compounds hold the floor well..

So much so that you really have to brake very hard to trigger the ABS, even on wet ground. You feel safe … and that implies a truly zen driving, especially in traffic where danger is omnipresent.

A well-placed price

Perhaps less "fashion" and charismatic than its competitors – which will also undoubtedly allow it to be robbed less? -, the elegant SW-T 600 corrects the dynamic faults of the Silverwing well. And if it does not necessarily make you want to line up at the start of the next to its handlebars, it is certainly a very good ally to face everyday life..

Finally, its price will eventually convince the most skeptical: the new Honda maxiscooter is displayed at 8,090 euros, ABS included. As a result, it’s much cheaper than the competition … which will leave you a little room to have it fitted with warnings !
