All Tests - Honda CBR250R Test: a real little sports car! - A real little sportswoman!

It was a short trip to the controls of the all-new Honda CBR250R, but it allowed us to perceive in this mini Fireblade a real sporting potential. Fast, rigorous and stable, it will allow novices to have fun ! Contact.

A real little sportswoman !

The presentations between the tester and the bike thus made, the tempo accelerates quickly. Available even valiant for a small mono 4-stroke, the engine of the CBR250R offers an appreciable extension: the breaker intervenes smoothly at 10750 rpm, or 250 revolutions after the needle has passed the red zone.

The user, even "hot boiling", however, will not go beyond 10,000 rpm. Theoretically, the machine gives its maximum (26.4 hp as a reminder) 1500 laps earlier! To drive at a good pace, we are therefore content to keep the engine speed between 5,000 and 9,000 rpm.

As a duo, the enthusiasm of the mill has barely begun, while its ease of use will appeal to the less seasoned passengers. These will cling with one hand to one of the passenger handles (worthy of those of the welcoming CBF) and the other to the tank. Only the vibrations occur at the level of the buttocks high in the towers.

On the cycle side, the double steel beam chassis – reinforced by a series of transverse tubes, the Japanese are keen on it! – has an appreciable rigidity which makes it possible to attack the curves with enthusiasm. In order to "reduce vibrations in the frame", the front of the engine is mounted via brackets. And it is clear that the CBR250R swarms only at high speeds.

The 37mm fork (non-adjustable) absorbs small and large shocks well, but above all it does not dive excessively when braking. A good point compared to that of the 125 which is much more fickle.

The rear shock absorber of the CBR250R is mounted on rods, hence the name "Pro-link" … and its excellent performance on more or less well maintained roads in the Seville region! Of course, the power to be transferred to the ground is far from amazing, but the capacity of the small – medium? – Honda to devour the curves is much more !

Stalled at 120 km / h meter – the Spaniards are now limited to 110 on the highway – the pilot can scroll the kilometers without getting tired and without exhausting the single cylinder. We can even take an additional 40 km / h without forcing, provided you curl up carefully behind the bubble which only protects the bust in the "normal" position..

By playing finely on the phenomenon of aspiration with his fellow travelers, we are close to 170 km / h. Towed by a CBF600, an Egyptian colleague would have seen the number 177 displayed on his counter. However, at this "pharaonic" speed, the switch is not yet quite reached..

On the Spanish autobahns, the CBR250R finally convinced Site. This new Honda CBR250R is a real little sports car: its size flatters the ego of the big without upsetting the little ones, its behavior on the road is healthy, and its mono is as flexible as it is engaging..

As for braking, if we have not been able to test the standard system, we can rely on Honda’s experience. The combined ABS is simply flawless: very insensitive when activated, it offers bite and power in full adequacy with the weight and performance of the bike.

Offered at € 3,990 from April in two colors (blue / white / red "HRC" or black "stealth"), it will allow French bikers who do not swear only by the capacity indicated on the tank to have a lot of fun without breaking the bank, both in terms of purchase, gasoline, maintenance and insurance.

In addition, circuit excursions will not be excluded! "It is true that the image of this engine in France is not good. We are therefore thinking about organizing a brand cut, because this remains the best way to prove the quality of the product and to make it known.", explains Christophe Decultot, CEO of Honda France.

Finally, the Moto GP could give it a little extra boost since in just one year, the Moto3s will hit the track in the great Continental Circus! Admittedly, the prototypes will have nothing to do with the production motorcycles: their mono with a maximum bore of 81 mm (76 mm for this CBR) will take more turns and develop more power. But after all, GP Aprilia or Honda had nothing in common with commercial RS and NSR 125…
