All Tests - Multistrada Granturismo Test: even further! - The winning combination?

The already very efficient Ducati Multistrada 1200 S is available in 2013 in an even better equipped, more elaborate and more touring Granturismo version. Objective of this new Ducati motorcycle: drive the point home to brush against perfection. First try.

The winning combination ?

From this month of April 2013, the Ducati Multistrada 1200 siblings are enriched with a fifth model called "Granturismo". This, more touring than ever, targets a globetrotting clientele. But wasn’t the Italian manufacturer already offering a "Touring" version, precisely? ?

Multistrada Granturismo: availability, colors and prices

  • Availability: immediate in the

  • Colors: "Touring" gray

  • Price: € 21,290

Before taking orders for the last "Multi", Site invites you to take stock of the different versions that were already available in. Because let’s face it, there is something to lose your Latin !

The entry-level model, the "short" Multistrada 1200, is completely naked (understand without suitcases) and is mainly identified by its suspensions – 50 mm Marzocchi fork and Sachs single shock – fully adjustable … by hand !

The other two versions ("S Touring" and "S Pikes Peak" which replaces the original "S Sport") are fitted with the DSS (Ducati Skyhook Suspension) electronic suspension system. No more keys or elbow grease: Sachs suspensions are managed with a simple control on the handlebars.

And it does not stop there, since these so-called "semi-active" suspensions – calibrated beforehand according to four modes of use (sport, touring, urban and enduro) – are automatically adjusted according to the state of the road.

"DSS technology receives the data transmitted by numerous sensors (vertical accelerometers), located on the suspended and unsprung masses, and processes them instantly by adapting the hydraulic brake in compression and rebound according to the Riding Mode selected, so as to reduce movements verticals generated by the roadway", details the Bologna firm.

"DSS is not only involved in controlling vertical movements on rutted roads", continues the manufacturer:"it exploits the signals sent by the Ride by Wire system and by the pressure sensors of the ABS system to act on the hydraulic brake in a continuous and intelligent way, in order to minimize the load displacements produced by the alternation of the braking, the acceleration and deceleration, for the benefit of dynamic performance".

Equipment level, the "S Pikes Peak" inherits a specific two-tone sportier color, forged Marchesini rims, a Termignoni silencer and carbon parts. On the "S Touring", we find this time two side cases of 58 liters, heated grips and a central stand..

Our “S Granturismo” of the day is like an over-equipped “S Touring”. It receives as standard a high screen, a comfort seat, additional headlights, two larger suitcases (73 liters!), A 48-liter top-case, crankcases, heated grips and a specific "Touring" gray color. very (too?) discreet.

The choice of color is nevertheless quite happy: thanks to it, the motorcycle camouflages its slight overweight. She reached 245 kg fully loaded, or 11 kg more than the S Touring and 21 more than the standard, which is starting to work for a beautiful Italian! But with this gray tint, the "Multi" retains a beautiful silhouette.

The price, however, does not benefit from any artifice: displayed at 21,290 euros, the new Ducati Multistrada Granturismo is aimed not only at heavy riders, but also and above all at large wallets….

Aware that the price of its motorcycles – certainly efficient and beautiful, therefore desirable – represents a sacred sum, Ducati has set up a financing program in LOA (rental with option to purchase), valid until the end of May 2013 on the ‘entire family "Strada", and included.

This offer will be of interest to motorcyclists wishing to keep the possibility of renewing their motorcycle during the "road" or of changing models according to the fixed period. However, the entry ticket remains high: count 247 euros minimum per month for a Multistrada 1200.

Among the standard equipment of the Granturismo, there are therefore two additional headlights controlled by the handlebars. Placed on either side of the tank scoops, this material is known to greatly improve night vision. This sets the tone and should allow adventurers to thwart the traps of the night !

With its luggage, the new "Multi" therefore becomes a real rival to the BMW R 1200 GS, even if it should be remembered that, unlike the big German trail capable of taking the roads, the Italian is not designed for cut across fields.

On the road, however, the Ducati does much more than resistance and pushes the BMW to its limits (read our). It owes this feat mainly to the perfect match between chassis, engine and electronics. Because if the machine remains heavy to handle when stationary, in dynamics it is quite another thing !
