All Tests - Test X10 125 and 350: Piaggio's new flagship - Healthy and reassuring behavior

With the exception of the MP3 three-wheeler, Piaggio lacked a truly high-end GT scooter, like the late X9 that the XEvo struggles to forget. To fill this gap, the Italians are launching the X10 which is available in 125, 350 and 500cc. Testing.

Healthy and reassuring behavior

Rather at ease in an urban cycle, the X10 also performs well on roads and expressways. Designed around a robust tubular steel frame, associated with a conventional fork and a combined double-acting hydraulic shock absorber (adjustable to 4 positions), it maintains a healthy and rigorous behavior when the pace picks up..

The suspensions, which deflect 115 mm at the front and 100 mm at the rear, perfectly absorb small imperfections in the coating and properly erase large shocks, when passing through a connection or a rut..

They are less resistant to the constraints on the angle: the weight of the machine is then more felt and significantly disturbs the heading accuracy. Same thing when approaching a row at a good pace, the X10 then requiring a more manly action on the handlebars to move quickly from one angle to another.

Note that the X10 500 will be equipped with a wider fork (41 mm against 35 mm on the X10 125 and X10 350) and a mono-shock absorber electrically adjustable in preload..

The integral braking with 280 mm front double disc and 240 mm rear disc is powerful and progressive and very easy to adjust to the levers. The one on the left jointly actuates the second front caliper and the rear caliper, while the right lever acts only on the front wheel via the second disc.

On versions fitted with ABS / ASR, the anti-lock braking system provides appreciable additional serenity when it comes to braking suddenly on a wet road or on a slippery road: whether the front brake is activated violently alone ( right lever) or the combined system (left lever), the X10 remains in line during the braking phase controlled by the ABS.

Finally, when braking on the angle, the steering does not lock sufficiently to affect steering precision. A real success !

Verdict: Worth the wait !

A worthy successor to the X9, the X10 does not lack strengths to make a good place in the segment of single-cylinder GT scooters.

Ultra equipped and equipped with sophisticated technologies (combined anti-skid and ABS), it seems to have a bright future in France, which has become the leading European market in terms of registration of motorized two-wheelers in 2011..

Price side, the Piaggio X10 is not sold: the 125 standard costs € 4,499 and goes up to € 5,699 in its "Executive" version which carries ABS and ASR. For its part, the standard X10 350 is priced at € 5,499 (€ 6,699 in Executive version), while the Executive version of the X10 500 will be at € 7,499: that’s expensive, very expensive even !

However, the success of expensive MP3s (up to € 9,000 for a 500 LT!) Proves that many urban users are ready to put the glove in the wallet to acquire a large scooter, rather than a Twingo which circulates and parks easily and is more greedy in gasoline…
