The Ninja sharpened her blade !
In 2009 the ZX-6R loudly proclaimed its desire to return to business in the Supersport category! Site therefore subjected him to an archi-complete program: road, track, city, duo and even a racing retest at the hands of a pro pilot.. Yum !
Efficiency without exclusivity
Purring gently at 8000 rpm, stalled at a small 140 km / h on the highway, the ZX-6R lets its pilot benefit from its less radical geometry and the correct protection offered by the bubble. The 5mm lower saddle, closer handlebars and thinner reservoir all help to make the rider really comfortable, even in heavy downpours !
The general ergonomics are very satisfactory, whatever the size: the plate is not excessively tilted on the front and the Green only suffers from slight vibrations from 6,000 to 8,000 rpm and a saddle too narrow and uncomfortable during long journeys on bumpy national roads. Like a 600 CBR, the Ninja puts moderate strain on the wrists. And the footrests – admittedly high and remote – do not require a warm-up session before riding the beautiful !
In built-up areas, the Zak ‘continues its recital in good manners: despite the reserve light – coupled with an automatic trip and the warning Fuel on the dashboard – which has been flashing for 55 km (!) now, the driver keeps smiling as he zigzags with ease between the lines of cars. Healthy, agile and formidably precise, the bike responds to the finger and the eye and its suspensions show sufficient progressiveness not to make the physiotherapist your new best friend. !
Apart from the retro – pretty and efficient – being at the same height as those of the cars, the Kawa pulls itself with the honors – for a sportswoman! – the city test thanks to a flexible engine (the 50 is possible in fourth at 3500 rpm!), a perfectly controlled go-around and a correct turning radius.
At this stage, it would be logical to conclude that the Kawasaki will surely pay cash for its astonishing aptitude for road trips: well, nay! Once out of traffic jams, the driver tastes the sporty side of the machine which hides, under its apparent bonhomie, a real character of a lap killer. !
Main player in this metamorphosis, once the first virolos arrived: the chassis, both rigid and well balanced, coupled with a quality of suspensions rarely achieved on a Kawasaki Supersport! The front axle is simply fabulous in terms of precision and delivers crisp, unambiguous information to its rider: the new Showa fork BPF offers an enjoyable control of the front at the start of compression on the entrances of the curve !
At first glance flexible because forgiving a lot on bumps, this new model of fork gives the feeling of hardening as the braking intensifies, making it possible to take full advantage of the excellent "Full radial" braking system. ! Powerful and progressive, the four-piston clamps provide a high-level feeling on the road and bring the bike to a stop with a finger in most cases !
The rear axle is not to be outdone and the sturdy maousse swingarm has no difficulty in curbing the ardor of the four-cylinder, alas limited to 106 hp … Quick as lightning at the change of angle, the Zak he may not have the agility of the Lilliputian CBR and 675 Daytona, but its stability in long turns is bluffing! This safe and a priori unperturbed behavior – whether on bitumen connections or bumps – requires you to put big gas back on the rope point swallowed !
Especially since the gearbox – equipped with the antidribble – also attracts praise when it comes to downshifting at the last second when entering a turn, then upshifting on the fly when exiting! Fast, precise and firmly locking each gear, the extractable cassette device packs a lot of money and sends the surly behavior of some Kawasaki boxes to oblivion. !
