Loris Baz ends his first part of the MotoGP 2017 season with a distant 19th place at the German GP, ​​penalized by a concern of tire wear on his Ducati Avintia. Loris Baz, Ducati-Avintia (14th in qualifying and 19th in race):  "The start of the race was more than correct. I managed to get into the right group and stayed there for the first nine laps. Suddenly the rear tire lacked grip on the left sidewall. then the bike got out of control, I couldn’t ride the way I wanted. In the last sections of the circuit, I lost almost 1.5 seconds per lap. I think this problem is mainly due to our settings. We made a few adjustments during the warm-up which didn’t work ".

"I cannot yet determine the origin of this problem, but we have really suffered. Still, I have a positive assessment of my start to the season with six races in the points. I practically scored some. as much as last year. We could have been even better in some events, but we approached this first part of the calendar wisely. We have made significant progress while learning. We hope to use this from Brno to be more aggressive and enter more points on the counter ".

Site analysis: Loris Baz finished this German Grand Prix in 19th position 59.850 sec behind winner Marc Marquez, a position which obviously does not satisfy the Haut-Savoyard – you can read it in his eyes below! – after his very good previous race in the Netherlands where he won with 8th place his best result of the season.

The causes of this poor performance are multiple: first, the rapid deterioration of its medium rear tire, with the same type of rubber. Honest, n ° 76 nevertheless recognizes that this degradation is more the result of bad adjustments than of any concern whatsoever with the Clermont envelope.. 

Remember that most of the drivers had opted for the same combination of medium-medium tires without encountering excessive wear concerns, including Marquez and Folger who finished first and second respectively. The other problem that "Baz-ooka" has to face are the pains felt in his right arm, which particularly bother him at the end of the race..

The Ducati Avintia rider will take advantage of the four weeks of summer rest to resolve this problem through a surgical intervention scheduled for next Wednesday in Aix-en-Provence. Hoping to be able to return in full possession of its means on August 6, when the tenth race of the season in the Czech Republic is scheduled..  

The opportunity to breathe a little after a first part of the season punctuated by ups and downs … and about his position on the bike on the grid (feet on the handlebars), received again this weekend! Not enough to destabilize the tricolor, who ends his mid-season in 15th position in the provisional standings with 31 points registered, just one small unit from Aleix Espargaro on the official Aprilia (32 pts). Loris even has the luxury of beating the Italian Andrea Iannone by four points, again at fault this weekend in Germany !

Sure that this hierarchy must be considered as a particularly bitter setback by the Suzuki clan, given the competitiveness of the GSX-RR last year in the hands – skillful! – from Viñales…
