Quartararo delighted with Czech Republic GP, Morbidelli furious with Zarco
New enriching experience for French debutant Fabio Quartararo, who finishes the Czech Republic GP in seventh position behind Rossi in difficult conditions. His teammate Morbidelli, for his part, accuses Zarco of being at the origin of his downfall and that of Mir in the first round…
Fabio Quartararo, Yamaha-SRT Petronas (10th in qualifying and 7th in race) : "I’m happy because this time I didn’t lose any position at the start. I just bit very lightly on the wet part under braking, which is why I couldn’t overtake (the track was dry on the side left and still wet on the right, Editor’s note).

“Tire management was complicated during this race. At the finish, however, I noticed that everyone in front of me had their rear tires ‘burnt out’, so it was clear that I was not the only one suffering. It was difficult because I had to pass Petrucci, Nakagami, Espargaro (Pol) and their motorcycles gain distance when accelerating ".
"Then I would have liked to catch up with Valentino and fight with him, but he kept my lap times every time. It won’t have been for this time, let’s hope it will be for the next one! In any case, it is. It’s nice to see him not far ahead. I learned a lot during this race. Besides, my arm didn’t hurt me: I finished in good shape and at 100% ".
MNC analysis : Ultra-fast – – In the dry, Fabio Quartararo knew that the situation would be different in the wet in the Czech Republic due to lack of experience with his private Yamaha. The changing conditions at the start of the race – due to a downpour – were therefore particularly stressful…
Another source of restraint for the n ° 20: his mistake made during the previous Grand Prix in Germany, where he had made a mistake by attacking Petrucci. No question of attacking the second part of the season on the wrong foot for the French rookie, who had set himself relatively reasonable objectives: "to finish better rookie and if possible in the Top 8".
Mission accomplished for Fabio, 7th with almost 8 seconds ahead of the second rookie Franco Bagnaia (12th)! The Nice rider also finishes 3 seconds behind the experienced Valentino Rossi and sticks a suitcase to the second official Yamaha of Maverick Viñales, anonymous 10th at 16.558 seconds.
Not bad at all for a "Rookie" for the first time faced with the reactions of a MotoGP of more than 270 hp in slicks on still slightly damp portions, then faced with the problems of tires put to death by the drying up of the track !
This performance gave him nine additional points in the provisional, where he nevertheless gave up a position to Cal Crutchlow: the French fell from 8th to 9th place. Fabio however remains by far the best beginner since Mir, Oliveira and Bagnaia only appear in 13th, 18th and 19th positions respectively..
Morbidelli charges Zarco
On the other side of the Yamaha-SRT box, the results are much less positive: Franco Morbidelli went to the mat in the first lap at the fourth corner, dragging the unfortunate Joan Mir into his Suzuki in his fall….
But the Italian-Brazilian believes that the responsibility for this collision falls to a third driver present at this moment: Johann Zarco, author of a catastrophic start which saw him lose ten places due to a skating of his KTM on the still wet portion of the track !
For Morbidelli, the French would have packed him more or less voluntarily because he was "a little frustrated after his bad start". The Yamaha rider even accuses Zarco of having performed an "unattractive maneuver", giving No. 5 an unflattering image: "we all know that elegance and fair play are not part of Zarco’s qualities".
"I was in my place behind Aleix Espargaro and Fabio Quartararo", responds the person, who admits having "touched Franco". Johann Zarco emphasizes, however, that he was not able to see his opponent on his left, since he swung to the right of his RC16 to tackle the next curve..
"I think Franco was trying to get closer, but I was totally to the right of my bike: I didn’t even see him", assures the Habs. "I felt the touch, I didn’t know if he had fallen or not. I’m so sorry for him.".
However, the incident did not give rise to any investigation by the race management, despite criticism from Franco Morbidelli. The native of Rome (Italy) could also show more restraint, knowing that he himself mowed down Maverick Viñales in the last lap of the Argentine GP…
