GP of the Netherlands 2018 – Marquez (1st): "It was a crazy race in a group of savages!"
Five different leaders, more than 100 overtaking, about ten contacts but only one winner: Marc Marquez, winner of the most beautiful race of the year at the MotoGP Dutch Grand Prix 2018! MNC Statements and Analysis.
Marc Marquez – Honda-Repsol (1st in qualifying and 1st in race) : "It was a crazy race, full of adrenaline. This feeling is one of the reasons why we play this sport! Yesterday, I expected something like this, but still not at this point: we were a bunch of savages, everyone was fighting against everyone ".

"I think we all had contact with someone today. We had to attack, then defend ourselves. And start over again … There were a lot of ‘hot’ moments with risk of falls. was crazy! It was impossible to follow any strategy or plan. So I decided to fight and see what I could do in the end. ".
“In the last three laps I gave my all without worrying about the tires or the championship. I tried to outrun the group but it was difficult. It wasn’t until the moment I saw I was a second and a half ahead I thought OK, it’s done, just finish this lap! It’s an important win and 25 points even more important. But we have to keep attacking and keep the same level".
Site analysis : A "group of savages" … The expression used by Marquez to describe this incredible battle of the Netherlands is perfectly appropriate! The show had not been so exciting in MotoGP since, with "more than 100 overtaking" recorded by the organizer in Assen !
Lorenzo, Marquez, Dovizioso, Viñales, Rossi: these five drivers took turns leading the Dutch race, while battling manly with Alex Rins and Cal Crutchlow at the top of their form. That is to say seven drivers who stayed in contact from the start to the end of the Grand Prix, to stand three abreast under braking and then to elbow to gain the advantage in the curves !

Always up for the fight, Marc Marquez gave and received blows without consideration or calculation: the Honda official is first in the provisional? Never mind: he sticks his Honda slipping under the fairings of his rivals and miraculously catches it when unceremoniously in a curve to the left !
Then, as if satiated by this fantastic fight, the n ° 93 accelerated with three laps from the finish to win solo with 2.2 sec ahead of Rins and 2.3 sec over Viñales, which was surprise by the very incisive Suzuki rider in the last chicane of the "cathedral" of Assen.
The victory – his fourth of the season – reinforces that feeling that Marquez is a cut above: the way he extricated himself from the field – when he had decided – speaks volumes about his dominance. The message is clear: "the boss is me!", Can we read on his face hilarious but determined. And his satisfaction is all the greater as this 39th MotoGP victory comes on a circuit traditionally favorable to Yamaha. !
With 140 points in eight races despite two white results in and in, Marc Marquez effectively crushes the category: Valentino Rossi and Maverick Viñales, who follow him in the provisional, are respectively 41 and 47 points behind.
Admittedly, there are still ten races to go, or 250 points to distribute. But reversing the trend will be difficult during the next event, the German GP in mid-July: Marquez has been undefeated in all categories since 2010. !
If he wins again at the Sachsenring in 15 days, his lead before the summer break could flirt with the two races ahead. And although Lorenzo has returned to his "hammer" mode in then in, it would be a blunt blow that Marquez would then carry to the competition….
Pedrosa next to his boots
Disappointment, however, on the other side of the HRC box: Dani Pedrosa finished an anonymous 15th place 16 seconds behind the winner. The Catalan rider – qualified 18th – was in the background all weekend, no doubt worried about his future which could be combined with a private Yamaha team alongside Franco Morbidelli.
"It was a very difficult weekend, including the race," admits piteously "Pedro" who will give up his handlebars to his compatriot Lorenzo at the end of the season. "We did not start well and we were not able to progress", he laments while assuring all the same to have "driven better at the end of the race than during the rest of the weekend".
The n ° 26 indeed rolled in 1’34.811 in the 24th lap, the same time as Rossi then second, but let’s admit that this – slight – progression went completely unnoticed next to the battle in front….
