Marc Marquez celebrates his 100th MotoGP race with a third place in the Czech Republic behind the two official Ducatis, bringing his number of podiums to 71 since his premier class debut in 2013. This result suits the HRC driver perfectly, who brings his lead in the 2018 provisional championship to 49 points ….

Marc Marquez, Honda-Repsol (3rd in qualifying and 3rd in race): "Yesterday, I said that three drivers would be formidable on Sunday: Jorge, Andrea and maybe Valentino. And it is clear that I was right! At the beginning, the race was quite slow, everyone was trying to preserve their tires. The grip on the track was not great either. However, I gradually gained confidence. Settled into Andrea’s wheel, I was ready to fight. ".

"But honestly against the two Ducatis, it’s very complicated … They have an incredible top speed and these bikes are ultra stable under braking: it’s very difficult to overtake them. Finally, we leave with a third place, but we didn’t miss much. We did a very good job because we are increasing our lead in the championship: we arrived here with a lead of 46 points and we are leaving with 49 points (ahead of Rossi, 2nd in the championship, Editor’s note) ".

“The next race is in Austria, the Ducatis are generally strong there but we will try our luck, because we are in a completely different situation. Last year, we had some questions when we landed at the Red Bull Ring, which didn’t is not the case this year. We will try to be quick from the start. Moreover, tomorrow (this Monday, Editor’s note), we will have an important test in Brno to continue our work ".

Site analysis: Marc Marquez honestly admits it: his main objective in the Czech Republic was to increase his lead acquired before the summer break, even if it means letting the victory slip away if the risk-taking becomes too high. Play to win, okay, but not at any cost…

“Today was my 100th race in MotoGP and I used the experience gained during that time: if it was my second or third race in MotoGP, I probably would have tried everything for victory … even if it means crashing! But it was my 100th and I showed wisdom ", explains the defending champion, who reminds us that this 3rd place is – on a regular basis – his worst result this season !

Of the nine races contested before the Czech round, Marquez has indeed won five and finished two others in second place. The two remaining races, either he encountered an exceptional event (18th in Argentina following several sanctions, including a downgrading), or he fell (GP of Italy)! A course – almost – without fault for a driver less and less impulsive and irregular.

"I am happy because we finished very close to the winner on a track where we often have trouble, and this while better tracks present themselves for us", rejoices the defending champion, who is starting to know how to use his strengths that take into account its weaknesses. The proof this Sunday in Brno, where the n ° 93 did not play the daredevil even though he seemed in places more swift than the Ducati

Because only the final classification counts: Marc Marquez understood it, even if he still sometimes has to curb his ardor … This GP of the Czech Republic illustrates precisely this ability to control oneself at a key moment: of course, the Ducati s ‘impose, but its pilots are not – yet? – dangerous in the championship with 68 pts behind for Dovizioso (3rd) and 76 pts for Lorenzo (5th). Or the equivalent of three wins in advance for Marquez.

Marc Marquez can therefore display a fully satisfied smile when getting off his RCV: it is indeed a judicious demonstration of wisdom to which the quadruple MotoGP world champion has delivered, who has posted a victory rate of 40% since 2013 ( 40 victories in 100 races on the factory Honda) !
