RS 660 & Tuono 660 in the starting blocks

Aprilia is entering 2020 with some well-known models. In the course of the year, the RS 660 and Tuono 660 will be joined by two highly anticipated motorcycles.

A.prilia RX 125

Aprilia.

Aprilia RX 125.

With 240 or 220 millimeters of spring travel and 905 millimeters of seat height, a thoroughbred enduro and nothing for short-legged people: Aprilia RX 125.Steel bridge frame and the swing arm made of the same material it shares with its Supermoto sister, as well as the tiny 6.2- Liter tank. The liquid-cooled four-valve injector is the same as in all 125cc Aprilias, it should act a bit more powerfully in modified periphery.

Aprilia SX 125

Slightly less spring travel (rear 200 millimeters instead of 220), larger brake discs (300 millimeters instead of 260) and of course the genre-making 17-inch model – this is how an RX 125 is transformed into the Supermoto SX 125. The chassis works like all 125 Aprilias quite tight, which fits into the sport concept just as well as the extremely agile handling and the sparse equipment: the SX concentrates purely on driving. In addition, the engine benefits from a shorter gear ratio compared to the RS and Tuono, which gives it a little more pep. Concerning series production: some test machines vibrated heavily, others ran extremely smoothly, there were also differences in the clutch. Always the same: Even this 125cc booty Italian doesn’t wear premium tires with CST tires. Still fun, and a success for Aprilia. By the way, SX and RX will get new colors for 2020.

Aprilia RS 125 / Replica

Visually still a stunner, technically – as far as the paper form is concerned – also well positioned: short-stroke four-valve single with the permitted 15 hp, six-speed gearbox, aluminum bridge frame and asymmetrical swing arm, USD fork, radial braking. However, the competition offers more in terms of motor (especially pulling power), and the ABS only works at the front. As a result, Aprilia has significantly reduced prices.

Aprilia Tuono 125

Aprilia.

Aprilia Tuono 125.

Aprilia’s strategy in the eight-liter class: transferring the radiance of the 1000/1100 V4 models to the 125 with a look that is as close as possible – which also gives us a beautiful light motorcycle in the case of the Tuono. Technically, it is identical to the RS 125. Means: stable chassis, acceptable suspension elements, low-torque Zongshen engine, poor initial tires, minimal cockpit, ABS only at the front.

Aprilia RS 660

Aprilia.

Aprilia RS 660.

At EICMA 2018 people were already delighted about Aprilia’s 660 concept, and now it’s finally getting concrete: The completely new 660 is a whole platform from which we will first see the RS 660 country road sports car, the corresponding Tuono will follow, There are rumors about a model with more suspension travel. The engine is a compact, load-bearing inline two-cylinder with a 270 degree crank pin offset and derived from the front half of the 1100 V4. 100 hp are possible. Aluminum bridge frame and asymmetrical aluminum swing arm with directly hinged strut, underfloor exhaust, fully adjustable 41 mm Kayaba fork, Brembo radial brake, the full Aprilia electronics package from the RSV4, 5 driving modes, semi-stub, LED light with integrated indicators and curve function, TFT and multimedia point the way: The RS 660 wants to be a young, modern, light (dry 169 kilos), drivable country road athlete with potential for the occasional trackday that can also be used in everyday life. For some, the perfect motorcycle.

Aprilia tuono 660

Almost clear, but still a bang: the extremely promising RS 660 is followed by a Tuono 660. In contrast to the RS, Aprilia mentions a specific 95 hp peak output, which opens up the possibility of an A2 throttle variant. Technically, no noteworthy changes are to be expected, of course apart from the tubular instead of stub handlebars and the tighter shell. The Tuono also gets Brembo radial, curve ABS, Quickshifter / Blipper, the very large APRC electronics package, LED and TFT.

Aprilia Shiver 900

Aprilia.

Aprilia Shiver 900.

The Shiver has been enriching the Aprilia portfolio since 2007 – at that time still as a 750 – eleven millimeters more stroke gave it a displacement of almost 900 cubic meters in 2017, which means it practically achieves the rated output of 95 hp. It was and is something like an insider tip for price-conscious, italophile country road milling cutters: sporty, firm and very precise chassis; strong, pretty throbbing V2; Top ergonomics, fixed brake. Only: Aprilia is still doing her no favors with the Dunlop Qualifier.

Aprilia Dorsoduro 900

Aprilia.

The Shiver in a supermoto dress (modified tank / seat combination, high handlebars, plus 30 millimeters of suspension travel, minus 3.5 liters of fuel tank capacity, shorter final gear ratio) is entering the 2020 season unchanged. Its strength lies in a rather moderate design: long wheelbase, relative flat steering head angle, torque-oriented design of the V-engine. The handling is far less acute than you might expect from a motorcycle of this class. The Dorsoduro can also be used everyday. Weak initial tires.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR / Factory

Aprilia.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 Factory.

No other Hypernaked is as close to the Superbike base as Aprilia’s Tuono 1100 thunderbolt – regardless of whether it is the RR version or the even more noble Factory. Central distinguishing features: The RR has suspension elements and steering dampers from Sachs and Pirelli Diablo Rosso III. A semi-active Ohlins chassis has been working in the factory since last year and it rolls on a Pirelli Supercorsa SP. The semi-active chassis works extremely satisfactorily, in no way dilutes the well-known excellent feedback of the Tuono, but extends its tight basic setup with a portion of comfort if necessary and at the push of a button. Aprilia’s V4 remains – even in the Euro 4 vote – one of the very hot, emotionally charged drives anyway. When it comes to brakes and electronics, the Tuono supplies state-of-the-art. No wonder that the series is a veritable sales success, the 1100 Tuono are by far the best-selling Aprilias. For the 2020 model year, the factory version is getting a new color scheme.

Aprilia RSV4 1000 RR

Aprilia.

Aprilia RSV4 1000 RR.

The regulation-compliant, more civil sister of the RSV4 1100 Factory, if you actually want to use the term “civil” for a 300 km / h track weapon with a nominal 201 hp. It will not experience any changes for the 2020 season either, differs from the Factory as follows: fork, shock absorber and steering damper from Sachs; Brembo “M50” calipers. Both have in common the well-known, comprehensive Aprilia APRC electronics package as well as engine cover and oil pan made of magnesium.

Potz Blitz: For the end of the season Aprilia donated almost 1100 cubic meters to the RSV 4 Factory and thus a top performance of an incredible 217 hp – since then the absolute top trump card in the Superbike quartet. The 1100 Factory only drives what is very good and very expensive: Ohlins, forged wheels, a lot of visible carbon, Akrapovic titanium as standard, and of course: winglets. In the 2019 track test, she was able to meet her claim to be the fastest on the racetrack. On the country road? You have to want that …

Two-wheelers with 50 cm³ & Aprilia scooter

Aprilia SR 50 R GP Replica.

In the 2020 model year, Aprilia is again offering plenty of two-wheelers for the young. The Aprilia RS 50, RX 50 and SX 50 models are still on offer. If you want something less spectacular and cheaper, you can fall back on various SR 50 R variants. The prices for the Aprilia scooter start from 2,120 euros.
