The new and long-awaited Aprilia RSV 4 made its first appearance during the Piaggio convention in Milan in February. In front of the 1200 privileged spectators, the new sporting jewel of the Noale brand unveiled its attributes and pretensions of “Race Machine”. A brand new 1000 cc 4-cylinder V-4 engine (of which you can see a video at the end of this article) hyper compact open to 65 °, more than 200 horsepower in race configuration, integral Ride by wire technology opening up new perspectives for the traction control.
The choice of a V4 makes it possible to refine the silhouette and the aerodynamic coefficient of the motorcycle as much as possible. The carbon silhouette of the machine presented already gave an appetizing glimpse of what the road version of the car would be like. RSV4. Sharp lines, sometimes protruding, with a very aggressive tendency, dressing a brand new chassis. A double aluminum beam with a very conventional design, anchoring at its ends an inverted fork equipped with Brembo radial brake calipers and a very strong swingarm.
Technical solutions forsaking originality in favor of optimum efficiency. Eccentricity or avant-garde, machines like the FV2 1200 or the 850 MANA take care of it. The RSV4 is designed to shake up the hypersport girlfriends, like the RSV 1000 which had really put the bronx in the sports car comparisons in the early 2000s..
And in September, here is his mount in civilian version. It is here in Factory version, with Ohlins suspensions and some carbon parts. And what about its design, its look, its compactness…. !?! A raptor with a threatening triple gaze. His new face is no longer pierced by a frontal air intake; the forced air now passes through 2 vents located under the side headlights. The reduced fairing best reveals the new frame where the already famous V4 1000 cc resides at 65 °. Question power, Aprilia catches up with the Japanese by announcing a very nice figure of 180 hp.
And 179 kg for this machine that smacks of the track more than anything else. Aprilia has put more than a nice and compact V4 into its new sports car. The column angle is adjustable, as is the anchoring of the swingarm as well as the position of the engine in the frame. The equipment is obviously to match, with Ohlins, a swingarm escaped from the SBK, one-piece Brembo radial calipers, forged aluminum rims…. and to take Madam, that could pose a problem: is it really a coincidence that the bike is shown with Diablo Superbike tires, an ultra-short rear frame with a single-seater seat and no passenger footrests? After having dominated in 125 and 250, Aprilia is counting on its return to Superbike planned for 2009..
