Great performance served in a user-friendly way

In the world of fast super athletes, performance is the trump card. This is especially true on a fast and fluid slope like Mugello. As part of the international press presentation, the new Aprilia RSV4 1100 Factory can show what it can do.

W.he model name suggests, the displacement of the V4 drive has been increased, the engine has been given a new mapping and its mechanics have been improved in detail. On paper, the V4, which has been drilled out from 78.0 mm to 81.0 mm, has 1,077 cubic centimeters and mobilizes 217 hp at 13,000 rpm. It feels like the displacement increase compared to the well-known thousand-meter V4 engine rather strengthens the upper speed range, in which one naturally spends a lot of time on the racetrack. From around 7,000 rpm, the violence of the drilled V4 becomes noticeable. The 1100er pushes hard and spurts super fast above 10,000 rpm in the direction of the limiter. The usable power range and torque plateau is opulent and the higher of two gear steps in many corners is therefore often the better choice.

There is plenty of power available!

Apart from its pure power, the silky responsiveness of the 1100 as well as its high level of smoothness are striking – the extreme top performance is served in a surprisingly user-friendly manner. Since the machine has a longer gear ratio in gears five and six, the top speed before the braking point at the end of the long Mugellos start / finish straight is an insane 325 km / h according to the top speed indicator.

The factory weighs 199 kilograms.

Unfortunately, our date with the new 1100 only lasts four turns. But the handiness of the 199 kg light and super compact machine leaves a strong impression. Even the earlier RSV4 models were reminiscent of nimble 600s with their lightning-fast handling. The new 1100 continues this tradition: it changes direction (despite a stiffer swing arm and a modified steering head for greater stability) without resistance and extremely jagged. It is unbelievable how accurate the Aprilia is when it comes to the turning points. You can effortlessly draw the line tighter and tighter in an inclined position and dictate any course to the machine almost at will – not many standard and street-legal motorcycles can do that at this level. On the other hand, the 1100 behaves capriciously at the corner exit. The tightly damped RSV4 1100 Factory doesn’t like too much pull, pressure or wild tearing on the handlebars. Such impulses are transmitted directly into the chassis and make the Aprilia restless. But if you drive the machine smoothly and gently guide the handlebars with your fingertips, power, precision and their highly developed electronics are synchronized at the highest level.

RSV4 1100 Factory costs 24,690 euros

To address the equipment of the machine: The RSV4 1100 Factory sees itself as a premium product for discerning customers and fans with the necessary change (24,690 euros) who love high-quality and exclusive technology. For example, light and heat-resistant Stylema brake calipers from Brembo of the latest generation are installed on the motorcycle. Lap by lap, the perfectly adjustable stoppers reliably brake the RSV4 at the end of Mugello’s long start / finish straight from well over 300 km / h.

Some of the panels on the all-black machine are also made of carbon. The Akrapovic rear silencer and a feather-light lithium battery are standard. The MotoGP-inspired wings (winglets) on the sides are also part of the standard equipment of the 1100 Factory, and they don’t just provide visual appeal. At a speed of 300 km / h, for example, they should bring eight kilos more contact pressure to the front and thus improve the feeling for the front wheel when braking on the last groove. Despite its racing DNA, the 1100 Factory will never be involved in an international racing series, as it does not fit into any regulations with a displacement of 1,077 cubic centimeters. Pure sports freaks can still order the RSV4 1000 RR from Aprilia (18,890 euros) – on order even directly from the racing department with all imaginable tuning parts including winglets.
