More displacement due to Euro4

The MOTORRAD editorial team pondered for some time whether and how Aprilia would manage to trim the 750 V2 to Euro4. At EICMA, the brand belonging to the Piaggio Group presented the Solomonic solution: more displacement.

The A.prilia Shiver 750, formerly SL 750 Shiver, has played a rather reserved role in Germany since 2007. It offered everything you could expect from a fun bike from the three-quarter liter league: light-footed handling, gripping engine and puristic riding fun.

The new Aprilia Shiver 900 aims to build on these virtues. The displacement increase is based on 11 millimeters more stroke, the bore remained untouched. 95 hp peak power was more than enough in the 750; the 900er sees no reason to step up here. This means that the new Shiver can also be throttled for holders of the A2 driving license. In terms of torque, however, the Shiver 900 gained 11 Newton meters, Aprilia now calls it 90 Nm. Both nominal power and maximum torque are available at lower speeds than was the case with the 750 – the logical consequence of the longer-stroke design.

When it comes to equipping the Shiver 900, Aprilia follows the sporty lines of the brand: a 4.3-inch TFT display clearly informs the driver of all the essential data; it is the same that is used on the RSV4 and Tuono 1100 V4. A connection to a smartphone is possible as an option, which Aprilia calls the AMP kit.

The electronic assistance naturally includes ABS, ride-by-wire control and traction control, which influences both the injection and the throttle position. This dual function is intended to make the procedure particularly smooth and easy to handle.

Even if nobody expects racing talent from the Aprilia Shiver 900, Aprilia explicitly refers to its 54 world championship titles, seven of which are Superbike and Supermoto world titles, which are said to have helped in the development of the sporty naked bike.
