Does the new one have more pressure than its predecessor? Difficult to say, because it is not so much sheer power, but rather the ease, still supported by the gearshift assistant, which characterizes the V4 at every moment-

May it be a little bit more? The factory version (fork and shock absorber from Ohlins, 200 mm rear tire, rear apron of the RSV4, complex paintwork) costs 17,990 euros.

A clear message: The Tuono has always been an extremely sporty naked bike. This also applies to the new one, but the everyday qualities in particular have been honed.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR in the driving report
Donner and Gloria
Technically and optically, the Aprilia Tuono has long been one of the most extravagant power-naked bikes. Now the Donnerbolzen wants to shake up the class of naked bikes again with a larger displacement and a lot of detail changes.
The traction control warning light in the cockpit flickers excitedly A.prilia Tuono V4 1100 RR can’t seem to hide her excitement anymore. Finally run out, finally show what it can do. And that even on home ground. Just a stone’s throw from the Misano GP circuit, the roads meander over the hills of the Romagna hill country. Not a meter even, hardly any straight. Il paese delle nude, naked bike land.

Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR in the driving report
Donner and Gloria
Tuono V4 1100 RR your heart pounds. The biggest in their model history. So far, the engineers had poured exactly one liter of displacement into it, both as a two-cylinder and as a four-cylinder. Now three millimeters more of the hole trickle down another 77 cm³. Mille plus instead of mille. The direction of the thrust is clear: more pressure in the lower speed range, more top performance. In numbers: 121 instead of 112 Nm of torque, 175 instead of 170 hp. Even before impressive values, even more so now.
Every gas application becomes an acoustic experience
No wonder this yellow light keeps flickering. Because the 65-degree V4 has always liked to put itself in the limelight. He bite briskly just above the speed basement, slipped fresh through the middle of the speed to run up to top form in the last third of the speed. The inflated V4 has preserved exactly this character. Probably also because the new connecting rod from Austrian crankshaft specialist Pankl saved an impressive 100 grams each. And so the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR gets going as bold as ever.
That sound alone. No screeching row four, no throbbing, torque-pregnant V2 and also no chirping triplet comes close to this rich and sonorous V4 bass. Every gas application is transformed into an acoustic experience – even if a more socially acceptable volume would certainly not have diminished the enjoyment. But there is simply no space for a front silencer under the oil pan protruding far down and the deflection of the shock absorber. So the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR can roar out its joy from the stainless steel system quite unabashedly. Cleanly and with acceptable responsiveness, it takes on the gas at the apex of the curve and provides that refreshing, powerful sprint after every bend. Not too much, never too little, that’s how the four-cylinder pushes forward. He revs up very easily, with emphatic effortlessness, until shortly before the seven-thousand-meter mark he reloads up to the rev limiter at 12,000 tours, as if the Italian tax investigators were after him.

Full engine power in all three driving modes
Does the new one have more pressure than its predecessor? Difficult to say, because it is not so much sheer power, but rather the lightness supported by the shift assistant that characterizes the V4 at every moment. A moderate pull on the throttle and – wupp – clicks the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR with the front up, only to be caught by the Wheelie Control a fraction of a second later. This succeeds after every turn, without any riot or speed orgies. And therefore suggests that the pepped up propellant actually has more pressure. In every vote. Because full power is available in all three driving modes (sport, track, race), the mappings only affect the throttle response and the strength of the engine brake. While the differences in drag torque are hardly noticeable on the racetrack and overland, the response behavior changes from user-friendly and tame in S mode to sporty and spontaneous in R tuning. What you like is ultimately a matter of taste.
Speaking of electronics: traction and wheelie controls such as ABS controls are not linked to the driving modes, but can be adjusted independently in three stages. And the bright Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR keeps the on-board computer on the go. At least on the smoothly polished Italian streets, even in the most aggressive set-up, you don’t need an over-motivated rider to intervene in the slip control. After all, it does it just as gently as the wheelie control, which brings the rapidly rising front wheel back to the ground. Even electronics skeptics gain confidence in the helpers after a short time and recognize how the still young technology can increase driving pleasure and safety at the same time. Against this user-friendly background, the tuning of the ABS is all the more surprising. In all three stages, the anti-lock device approaches the maximum deceleration that can be achieved with a tall fun bike, but even in the tamest version, the Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR threatens to raise the rear of the vehicle when it brakes and forces the pilot to take the brake pressure away. Not a good option in an emergency.
The fork and strut protect nerves and intervertebral discs
So that’s not the only reason to turn the gas out first, instead collect and enjoy. Because when the senses open up to things other than power, torque and driver assistance, the refreshed Tuono reveals its new side. The Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR seems to know where a naked bike like it belongs: on the country road. And so it not only sits comfortably on the significantly softer seat cushion, the suspension also means well with the Tuono driver. While the twitch on the previous model was still cramped at some transverse channels, the significantly softer fork and shock absorber (both from Sachs) protect nerves and intervertebral discs. That is why the Tuono driver is now speeding the country roads much more relaxed than before.
Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR brakes brilliantly
But definitely not a bit slower. Also because the technicians from the vicinity of Venice also polished up the new Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR with a wide range of detailed changes. Whether the installation length has been shortened, the ride height has been reduced by around 18 millimeters, the additionally lowered front, the resulting steeper steering angle, the four millimeter longer swing arm, the 16 millimeter narrower handlebars or the slightly more aggressive brake pads: every corner has been fine-tuned. As if the Italian needed it. Because the Aprilia Tuono has already steered in exactly to the millimeter, drawn its radii with sparkling cleanliness. On straights, however, it remained stable and braked properly. The latter in particular now makes it brilliant, allowing the changed pads in the Brembo monoblock caliper to bite into the two 320 discs more powerfully and with more feedback.
Ultimately, these accompanying measures complete the extremely successful readjustment of this naked bike and make it a little easier to swallow the financial extra for the new Aprilia Tuono V4 1100 RR. At 16,490 euros, the 1100 costs exactly one thousand more than last year’s model. But if it hurts, it’s worth the effort.
