BMW R18 conversion by UCC from Sweden
BMW R 18 conversion from the far north
Swedish chopper with boxer
BMW Motorrad Nordics has ordered an R18 from the Swedish customizers of Unique Custom Cycles. And they do what many do: Bigger bikes.

Absolutely correct: The Swedish chopper is historically incorrect. These are actually rigid-frame Harleys with very long forks. Steering head angle at roughly 5 ° and a lag of several meters. Visually strong, complex in terms of driving dynamics. But things come full circle with the R 18 from UCC from Sweden: The BMW is getting a new, longer fork and a larger front wheel, which means that the caster in the pictures also runs towards the horizon. Right again: We have the one with the larger front wheel on a custom bike based on the BMW R18 already with the conversions by Martin Becker, Marcus Walz and Arjan from Ironwood Customs had read. What they all have in common is the conversion of the wheel dimensions to 21 inches at the front and 18 inches at the rear.
UCC thinks differently
In contrast to the mentioned conversions of the R 18 from Germany and the Netherlands, the Swedes go their own way, especially with the rear: They leave it with a conversion to a side license plate holder. The fender remains standard except for the paintwork and is fitted with a new flat seat. A shorter damper from Ohlins lowers the whole rear end. The intervention at the front is all the more intense: Instead of the covered telescopic fork of the series, the men install a USD-NIX fork from Ohlins along with radial brake calipers from Brembo. It comes in a trio with two new, milled fork bridges and a self-made handlebar from the halls of UCC. The original round instrument sits on a new holder in front of the handlebar. Underneath, a new LED headlight with only 5.75 instead of 7 inches ensures a forward view.

1,800 cubic and 156 Nm
Nothing needs to be changed in the key data of the giant boxer: 1,800 cubic meters, 156 Nm and 91 hp are the pillars of superior propulsion. In Sweden, however, it can be a little more sound: mufflers from our own production let the boxer mark the gas change in a loud, pithy style.
Paint and love
UCC had great things done by lacquer artist Hakan Lindberg on the sheet metal of the BMW. A strong red-orange with contrasts in yellow-orange and pinstripes in red: a sunset to fall in love with.

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.
Better to leave it in its original condition.
Conclusion
BMW never tires of showing R 18 conversions from master craftsmen from all over the world on a regular basis. The R1 from UCC is one of the most serial models to date, even if the complex conversion of the front does not fully prove it. Nevertheless: With the standard rear end, the R 18 could also come directly from BMW. Such a bobber style would still be missing anyway.
