New presentation of the BMW S 1000 RR
Super sports car with 207 hp and 198 kg
BMW presented the brand new BMW S 1000 RR at EICMA 2018 in Milan, which will hit the streets in 2019. More power, less weight and ShiftCam – compared to its popular predecessor, almost no screw was left unturned. The price is already known: it starts at 18,750 euros.
BMW and Supersport fans have been waiting eagerly for this. With the new one presented at EICMA S. 1000 RR, BMW has set itself the goal of making the already very popular super sports car even better. The development goals were formulated accordingly: “1 second faster on track, more than 10 kg lighter and easier to control”. For this, the bike has been completely redesigned.
New engine with 207 hp
And the key data actually make you sit up and take notice. In the 2019 model year BMW S 1000 RR, the newly developed engine should produce 207 hp at 13,500 rpm and 113 Nm at 11,000 rpm. That is 8 hp more than its predecessor. These extreme values are made possible by the ShiftCam valve control already introduced in the new Boxer, which varies the valve timing and valve lift on the intake side. In addition, BMW engineers have revised the geometry of the inlet and outlet ports of the cylinder head. The intake tract has also been further developed.

The new engine will produce 207 hp.
BMW promises a linear torque curve that should have a positive effect on driving characteristics. In the lower and middle range, the torque should also have been increased. Anyone who now fears that these updates will have a negative effect on the weight of the new BMW S 1000 RR is wrong. The four-cylinder in-line engine is said to be four kilograms lighter than its predecessor. An additional weight saving results from the exhaust system, which is 1.3 kilograms lighter.
Weight reduction from 208 to 197 kg
The chassis was also newly developed, in which the engine now takes on a more supporting role. Changes have also been made to the chassis geometry, which should have a positive effect on handling and traction. The rear suspension is now supposed to be 300 g lighter and has been completely redeveloped.

A wheelie control will be standard on board from the coming model year.
The aim of the new design was to position the fully adjustable central spring strut as far away from the engine as possible. This is to prevent undesired heating of the damper by the engine waste heat. Overall, the new BMW S 1000 RR should weigh a whopping 11 kilos less than the previous model. If you opt for the so-called M-package, you get an even lighter machine that should weigh just 193.5 kg with a full tank.
Lots of new features
Other features include traction control with a 6-axis sensor box, lean angle sensors and wheelie control. The four riding modes “Rain”, “Road”, “Dynamic” and “Race” are available as standard. A blipper, hill start assist, cornering ABS, LED headlights, a so-called launch control and a pit lane limiter are also on board.
BMW motorcycle
The front has changed fundamentally compared to its predecessor.
The latter features should be particularly suitable for use on the racetrack. Racetrack fans will also be pleased that the front indicators are no longer installed on the fairing, but on the rear-view mirrors. This should enable the new S 1000 R to be made suitable for racetracks faster. Speaking of indicators: BMW has given the S 1000 RR “comfort indicators” that go out automatically after turning. This means that blinking vehicles that actually don’t want to turn should be a thing of the past. At the rear, the indicators and license plate lamps were incorporated into the license plate holder. The brake and tail lights are also integrated in the direction indicators.
TFT display thoroughly revised
The new light alloy wheels should provide a weight saving of 1.6 kg. There is also a slight weight saving of 0.5 kg on the brakes. At the front, BMW has given the S 1000 RR two radially attached four-piston fixed callipers with 320 mm steel brake discs. A single-piston floating caliper is used at the rear in combination with a 220 mm brake disc.
BMW motorcycle
BMW has given the 2019 S 1000 RR a new TFT display.
Something has also changed in the cockpit of the new BMW S 1000 RR. The new 6.5-inch TFT display should leave little to be desired. It should shine through the variety of information, good readability and user friendliness. Pilots can choose between four different display formats. The so-called “Pure Ride Screen” should be suitable for normal road use, for example, and provide all the important information. There are also three other screens that are suitable for use on the racetrack and are intended to offer added value (including lap times). Information on the inclined position can also be shown on the display, for example.
BMW S 1000 RR from 18,750 euros
As is common with BMW, there will also be special equipment for the S 1000 RR. The M package already mentioned above is equipped, for example, with carbon wheels, a rear lift, the “Pro” driving mode and other features. The optional equipment “Dynamic Package” and “Race Package” and S-1000-RR versions with a theft system, a passenger cover, the so-called E-Call system and a tire pressure monitor are also available.
In addition, the BMW S 1000 RR can be highly individualized thanks to the extensive range of special accessories, which should, however, increase the price considerably. The new BMW super sports car will initially be available in the two paint finishes Racing Red and BMW Motorsport.
