Emergency call even without a system ex works. Bosch make this possible with theirs well-known Help Connect system in conjunction with the app provider Calimoto. So far, the Bosch emergency call system has either been linked directly to the motorcycle’s systems or via its own app the data of the motorcycle stability control (MSC) by smartphone. If the worst comes to the worst, a voice connection is established to an agent who, if in doubt, triggers an emergency call.

Emergency call now also without a lean angle sensor

What is new in the cooperation between Bosch and Calimoto is that the system works completely without data from the lean angle sensor and a possible accident or fall is recorded by the smartphone’s integrated acceleration sensors. When an accident is detected, the system establishes a direct voice connection with the Bosch emergency center. If the driver does not respond to the speech, the agent automatically triggers a rescue operation and the location is determined using the app’s GPS data. As usual with the Bosch system, the emergency call can also be triggered manually via the app. The cooperation increases the safety of drivers on simple or older machines without banking-dependent systems.

What does it take??

The basis for the emergency call system is the Calimoto app, as well as a smartphone with the Android operating system version 6 or higher or Apple version 11 or higher. In addition, the Help Connect system must be booked as a subscription, the prices for this are 4.99 euros monthly or 39.99 per year. Booking is also possible in the basic version of Calimoto. While driving, the app must be running and the smartphone must be mounted on the handlebar.

Where does it work?

The Bosch Help Connect team can be reached with a German SIM card in the mobile phone via the app and with a German SIM card from eleven European countries: Germany, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Great Britain, Ireland, Italy and Spain. Regardless of the country in which the system is triggered, the emergency team is always addressed in German or English.

What do the partners say??

Hans-Joachim Allenfort, co-founder of Calimoto, sees real added value in the cooperation with Bosch: “An automatic emergency call can save vital minutes in an emergency and thus make a decisive difference for the rescue workers. With this additional feature, our users can enjoy their tours with Calimoto even more carefree.”

The Bosch Help Connect emergency call system now also works independently of the vehicle via the Calimoto navigation app.

For Stefan Ferber, Managing Director of Bosch.IO, the cooperation contributes to Bosch’s Internet of Things strategy: “Help Connect uses the sensors of networked products, such as the Calimoto app on the smartphone here. We are expanding this with an algorithm for accident detection and the Bosch emergency call. This can save lives and is, in keeping with our Bosch brand promise, technology for life.”

How important is a smartphone network with the motorcycle to you?

Voted 853 times

I would definitely wish.

I can do without it completely.

Conclusion

Bosch and Calimoto perform a clever move there. Bosch can market its system and the structure behind it independently of the manufacturer, and Calimoto pushes a great security feature into its own service. 40 euros a year is ok, the requirement to mount the smartphone handlebars may be technically necessary, but optically it is a step backwards. It is nice that motorcycles without novel systems are allowed to move in the safety bubble of the ultra-modern motorcycles.
