Luggage innovations put to the test
We are facing soft times: the hard plastic case as the ultimate transport container is facing serious competition from soft luggage; because there have not been so many soft innovations as this year for a long time. Here you go: the luggage trends 2010.

What to do with the helmet when strolling through town – leave it on the motorcycle? It doesn’t work at all, because males who are crazy about marking are just waiting for it. Top case? Super embarrassing for athletes. So off to the extra compartment of the “Vanucci Premium” backpack from Louis (Tel. 040/73419360). A sleeping bag can also be used as an alternative. The idea is not new, but no double bag has ever been so practical. The main compartment of the polyamide part, which costs 69.95 euros, has a capacity of 25 liters. The helmet compartment is housed independently in the floor and is accessible via a separate zipper. Two outside pockets, one inside pocket, a key carabiner, top padded, interconnected shoulder straps and a waist strap are standard on the well-made rucksack. But please be very careful when turning!

Louis textile saddlebags
The motorcyclist nation may not have been waiting urgently for a combination of throw-over saddlebag and trolley (“pull-behind bag with wheels”), but if you buy the 99.95 euro part from Louis (Tel finger and try it out, the idea doesn’t seem so absurd anymore.

The two polyamide bags hold 20 liters each and can be expanded to 24 liters each with all-round zips. Three solid Velcro straps are used for mounting on the motorcycle. In trolley operation, the bags are linked with zippers and click fasteners. The scope of delivery includes shoulder straps and lashing straps as well as rain covers. Processing? Pretty passable.
Krauser / H&B soft bags

Krauser / H&B soft bags
Soft luggage on the hard side carrier: This clever combination, because it is wobbly and inexpensive, is a specialty of Krauser and Hepco, respectively & Becker (Tel. 06331/1453100). The former rivals are now united. For those in collaboration with Ortlieb (for Krauser) or Held (for Hepco & Becker, in the picture) are available from 99.95 euros (e.g. BMW F 800 R) C-shaped, pleasantly inconspicuous holders onto which the reinforced pockets are simply pushed and locked. The soft tissues, which are equipped with waterproof inner pockets, each hold 21 to 23 liters and cost 149.95 euros per pair.

But it’s cute! This is almost always the reaction when you see the “Kappa TK 734” mini tank bag for the first time. The tiny (W / H / L: 21.5 / 26/21 cm) is the true-to-scale reduction (approx. 1: 2) of a classic magnetic tank bag. And processed excellently. An all-round zipper ensures that the capacity can be varied between six and eight liters. The “map compartment” is more of the size of a navigation system and is therefore equipped with mounting options for the route finder. The eye-catcher, which costs 49.90 euros, also fits on aluminum or plastic tanks, because the corresponding straps are included in the scope of delivery. Available from JF Motorsport, Tel. 06002/91030.

The details make the difference: the “Kappa TK 731” throw-over side pockets belong to the class of soft luggage, but the almost water-impermeable polyester / Cordura combination is PU-reinforced in the right places and has a very high level of inherent stability. The pair, which costs 129.90 euros, is among other things. Equipped with two insulating compartments and holds 17 to 30 liters each. Heat-resistant material on the underside has a calming effect. The handles are equipped with thick rubber grips, the two wide Velcro strips disappear into their own pockets when not in use. Delivered to JF Motorsport, Tel. 06002/91030.
Oxford tank bag

Oxford tank bag
Totally global: Developed in England, made in Indonesia, offered for 99.99 euros in Germany by Hein Gericke (Tel. 0180/5229522) – the magnetic tank bag “Oxford X30” was around a lot even before it was sold. And it will do so afterwards, its high-quality design and lavish equipment (waterproof navigation bag, backpack equipment, shoulder strap, rain cover, base plate that can be used as a map pocket) make it suitable for long distances. The light and robust ripstop nylon is available in black, red, blue and anthracite.
Touratech case system

Touratech case system
Aluminum case and naked bike? That fits together – at least that’s what it means Touratech (Tel. 07728/92790) and with the “ZEGA Pro” case system has something suitable in its range. The claim is: “In addition to the BMW cases (Editor’s note: also from Touratech) build the best aluminum case in the world.” , 38 and 45 liters capacity. A complete set with stainless steel rack and two 31 liter suitcases costs z. B. for the Triumph Speed or Street Triple 899 or 929 euros (anodized / black anodized).
SW-Motech top case

SW-Motech top case
It has long been standard in the automotive sector, but still the big exception for two-wheelers: remote unlocking of the trunk. One might argue about the purpose of a topcase remote control, but it is definitely a nice show in front of Lidl. “T-RaY” is the name of the new topcase brand from SW-Motech (Tel. 06425/8168050), which has stern containers with a volume of 28, 36 and 48 liters in its range. In addition to being opened by remote control, the boxes, which are available in black and silver metallic, have even more gimmicks to offer: an automatic lock that is activated 15 seconds after the lid is closed and an alarm system. With base plate from 69.95 to 219.95 euros.
SW-Motech / Bags-Connection side case

SW-Motech / Bags-Connection side case
The combination of hard and soft luggage is called “Aero” and comes from SW-Motech / Bags-Connection (Tel. 06425/8168050). The side cases consist of a thin and very flexible ABS plastic shell coated with black 600D nylon fabric. Advantages of this design: better dimensional stability than with pure soft luggage, but still very low weight and a low price. For 249.95 euros there are two suitcases (31 liters each) including waterproof inner pockets. With the help of optionally available adapters, the parts fit on the Quicklock case carriers from SW-Motech and also on Givi- and Hepco & Becker carrier.
Bagster tank bag

Bagster tank bag
In France it has Bagster Almost a monopoly on luggage, but the French are now stepping on the gas when it comes to exports too. For example by working with Polo (Tel. 0180/5225785). Among other things, there is the “Discover” magnetic tank bag, which has a capacity of 16 to 27 liters, for 79.95 euros. Clever details such as a separate cell phone compartment, elastic straps inside the tank bag and the base plate that can be used as an extra map pocket ensure that it is very practical. Away from the motorcycle, the solidly manufactured part can also be used as a backpack. The difference to most other tank bags: the generous width.
Hepco & Becker aluminum case

Of course, they still exist: the aluminum suitcases that look hard on a desert expedition. This supposedly exhausted segment even offers innovations. For example the “Xplorer” model from Hepco & Becker (Tel. 06331/1453100), a 30 or 40 liter connector made of 1.5 millimeter thick, anodized aluminum sheet. The lid of the top loader can be opened 90 degrees or removed completely. The range of accessories is extensive: bottle and canister holders, inner pockets, additional handles and straps, tool roll-up pouch or a 45-liter top case as a nice addition. The 30-liter Xplorer costs 275 euros, ten liters more cost ten euros more. The topcase also costs 285 euros.
Givi tank bag

Givi tank bag
It is well known that Italians themselves attach great importance to chic design. Givi (Tel. 0911/955100) therefore has a color-coordinated soft luggage collection called “Silver Range” in its range. Everything is very chic and very discreet. For example, the T470 magnetic tank bag, which costs 69 euros and is part of the mid-range tank bag with a capacity of 13 to 21 liters. Its dimensions (160-250 x 240 x 350 mm) make it a partner for tanks that are not too large. The two side pockets are not bulky, so nothing bothers you when doing gymnastics. The four magnets can be easily removed, so the T470 can be converted into a classic belt model.

Another representative of the “Silver Range” from Givi (Tel. 0911/955100) is the T472 rear bag, which also changes hands for 69 euros. The 18 liter polyester part is strapped to the rear of the vehicle with the help of four completely removable straps provided, as the name suggests. The scope of delivery includes a robust rain cover and a no less stable shoulder strap. Three outside and four inside pockets keep things tidy. The processing of the soft tissue, which does not collapse even when empty, is excellent. The good piece cuts a very good figure as hand luggage even away from the motorcycle – just a typical Italian woman.

You don’t like tank bags, rear bags, saddlebags or even suitcases because you are very reluctant to hang stuff on your motorcycle? No problem, because with the “Drive Yellow Line” rucksack from Polo (Tel. 0180/5225785) there is a 40 liter (!) Transport home that doesn’t mess up the bike, but still carries a lot away. The waterproof part is practically a conventional luggage roll with back padding and well-padded shoulder straps. Abdominal and chest straps ensure a stable fit. The sturdy PVC bag for 49.95 euros has no frills, two external mesh pockets are the only extras.
