Citroën presented the special Jumper Biker Solution Classic motorhome at the Caravan Salon 2018 in Dusseldorf. The Citroën Jumper Biker Solution, developed in cooperation with the conversion experts from Flexebu, is based on the L3H2 version of the Jumper, which has a total length of six meters, a width of 2.05 meters and a height (with lifting roof) of 2, 67 meters.

Protective motorcycle clothing, helmets and all other luggage can be stowed in the lockers.

Thanks to the folding beds (60/40) on the side walls in the cargo area and in connection with the optional pop-up roof, including slatted frame and mattress as well as painted roof shell, the Citroën Jumper Biker Solution offers up to four beds. The other living facilities include, among other things, an outside awning, a kitchen block with a compressor refrigerator and a self-sufficient system with a maintenance-free battery.

If a larger cargo space is required (up to 13 m³, payload 1,200 kg), the Citroën Jumper Biker Solution can be converted into a pure transporter in a few simple steps: all furniture can be easily removed thanks to a clip system. The trailer load is 2.5 tons.

The standard equipment of the Citroën Jumper Biker Solution includes a color navigation device, a steering wheel remote control and a video parking system with acoustic rear parking aid. A hill descent assistant, hill start assistant and intelligent traction control ensure additional safety. In terms of the exterior design, the Biker Solution stands out from the usual transporter with a metallic paint finish in aluminum gray and a decorative design in gray.

The Citroën Jumper Bike Solution Classic was initially available with a 157 hp and 400 Nm three-liter four-cylinder turbo diesel at prices from 54,264 euros. With the facelift of the basic Jumper model for the 2019 model year, its standard equipment was expanded and the engine replaced. The only engine available now is a 165 hp 2.2-liter turbodiesel, which is combined with a manual six-speed gearbox and front-wheel drive. The diesel engine is classified according to the new Euro 6d-Temp emissions standard for commercial vehicles. The base price rose to 60,809 euros. Citroen Biker Solution Classic in a practical test

In general, things are tight in the Biker Solution. For people and motorcycles. The seating group consists of the swiveling driver’s cab seats and a table element attached to the cupboard, which, however, does not look very stable. The ensemble can be completed by a camping chair that still fits in front of the motorcycles. Getting in or out is then only possible after major renovation work. You also have to convert if you want to use the large, comfortable bed under the pop-up roof, because the access ladder ends exactly where the table would otherwise be. If you want to use the rear bed, you have to unload the motorcycles. Together with the table, they also block access to most of the cabinets. So you should think carefully about where to stow what, especially if you want to access it on the go. It also gets tight in the closets when motorcycle clothes are to be stowed away. Two XL combos in a tall cabinet? That would actually only work with stretch folds. It is also tight in the padded helmet compartments. Extremely sporty headgear with many attachments just barely misses a press fit.

The sparse equipment makes longer, self-sufficient camping stays difficult. There is only 19 liters of fresh water and only cold and only at the sink. There is no shower, sink or toilet. The gas cooker only has one flame, so the food on offer is accordingly. However, it is always enough for an overnight stay on the road plus morning coffee.

It gets really tight with two motorcycles

The real focus of the Biker Solution is not on living, but on the option of being able to take motorbikes with you. Citroen provides two transport rails as standard, but if you want to load two bikes, you should plan and measure carefully beforehand. The maximum loading width at handlebar height is 1.54 meters, in the area of ​​the footrests only 1.34 meters remain due to the interior fittings. The rails limit the maximum loading length to just under 2.30 meters. It gets tight for some mid-range enduro bikes. Most cruisers, choppers and tourers have to stay outside. So only those who neatly pack can bring two motorcycles into the hold. The securing of the load is also tight because the lashing points are difficult to reach. The two-part drive-up rail, which finds its resting place on the floor between the motorcycles, can only be threaded in and attached with a little effort. If only one motorcycle is loaded, tight spaces are not an issue. Small secondary theater of the war: the lashing straps supplied come without a test mark and are therefore not actually permitted for securing loads.

The charging process itself is simple. Drive the motorcycle into the prepared front wheel rocker, fix it with straps and pull it in remotely using a cable winch. The electric motor takes just under 100 seconds for this. So that nothing slips in the truest sense of the word during loading, the terrain should be as level as possible. On a surface that slopes to one side, the loading ramp can twist under the weight of the motorcycle. In extreme cases, there is a risk of tipping over.

Unloading needs to be prepared

When unloading, attention should also be paid to the stand area. The motorcycles stand on rockers mounted on rollers and must be pulled out onto them with the hand on the arm. This is a difficult or even impossible undertaking when the bus is facing downhill, because the bike then keeps rolling forward and cannot be stopped with the brakes. The solution: a strong helper or repark in such a way that the bus is facing uphill or at least level. Also important: Always keep an eye on the wind, because the rear doors cannot be fixed and slam shut with a slight gust of wind. Uncomfortable when you are loading or unloading.

If you park awkwardly, you have to weigh heavily when unloading.

If the motorcycles are outside, the cargo space that has become free can hardly be used for anything else – neither as living space nor as storage space. The fixed rails are always in the way and a real trip hazard.

Drives easily and quickly

But we not only loaded and unloaded, we also drove. The Biker Solution drives like a car, but the dimensions require some getting used to, as is usual with this vehicle class. The view, which is restricted by the low windshield, is not very helpful. Narrow country roads are becoming even narrower, tight curves need to be taken more generously if the rear axle is not supposed to plow through the green or over sidewalk edges. With the 165 hp diesel engine you are sufficiently motorized. Overland you can easily swim with the traffic, on the motorway traveling speeds of 140 km / h are no problem, the noise level remains within tolerable limits. The diesel also takes most of the inclines with the power of torque and without changing gears. What is missing is an inside mirror to monitor the cargo.

Conclusion

The combination of motorhome and motorcycle transporter is a good idea, but the Citroën Biker Solution has weaknesses in terms of both living and motorcycle transport. However, if you plan on spending a night or two on your way to your holiday home, who are into high travel averages and don’t want to drag the motorcycles around on the trailer, you will enjoy the Biker Solution.
