Waterproof touring boots
MOTORRAD took eleven waterproof touring boots in the price range up to 150 euros with them on an extensive test round including water crossing and hiking. It was tested which footwear best suited the diverse requirements.

Motorcycling can be fun even in the rain. At least if you wear suitable, waterproof clothing? and that includes waterproof boots. The following test shows that they don’t necessarily have to cost 200, 300 or even more euros in order to meet the high demands of all-weather riders, in which MOTORRAD thoroughly defected eleven pairs of touring boots between 119 and 150 euros.
The total of 100 points that can be achieved are distributed among the individual test criteria as follows.
Water resistance (30 points): one of the most important characteristics of a touring boot. And since all candidates are equipped with membranes, this criterion should not cause any problems. MOTORRAD checked one pair of each model in a water bath, and filled another pair with water up to ten centimeters below the boot shaft. Each tight boot receives 7.5 points. In the event of a leak, there were deductions depending on the strength of the water permeability. In at least five of the eleven test candidates, all four tested boots held absolutely tight. And there was no total failure with the rest? although one or the other boot showed leaks over time due to poor workmanship.
Tip: So that buyers do not suddenly get wet feet the first time they ride in the rain as a boot that is advertised as waterproof, it is better to carry out a leak test similar to that of MOTORRAD immediately after purchase and replace leaky copies immediately for guarantee. This saves unnecessary frustration on the tour.
Practical driving test (15 points): During test drives on a Suzuki Bandit 1250, the MOTORRAD testers rated the mobility, the feel for the brake and gear levers and the grip on the pegs. They also awarded points for general wearer behavior and fit. The ultra-comfortable Hein-Gericke boots, which also offer the best mobility when “doing gymnastics” on the footrests, landed at the very front. In comparison, they work hero Via downright bone-hard? although they are also suitable for touring.
Practical test of walking (10 points): During a tour, you are always on foot for a while. The rolling comfort on asphalt and gravel and the foot fixation are just as important as that the boot does not pinch anywhere. All in all, all candidates are good for a short walk, for which the unexceptionally good ride comfort is responsible. One or the other pressure point at seam transitions or in the area of protectors or reinforcements restricts walking comfort and is punished with point deduction. MOTORRAD recommends strolling through the sales room for at least a few minutes when buying boots in order to rule out problems of this kind.
Safety (30 points): How complete is the equipment with protective pads or protectors, what is the outer material made of (leather or textile)? How good is the hold in the boot, how secure is the closure? Boot height and reflective material are also included in the assessment. With a clear lead, the robust Via von Held decide this rating for themselves. The T1R High XCR from Hein Gericke offer the lowest protective function in the test field.
Handling (10 points): The boots are easy to put on and take off and the fasteners are easy to use?
Processing (5 points): How well are the candidates processed?
Test conclusion: For a long jaunt (in a double sense) the market in the class up to 150 euros offers plenty of recommendable footwear ?? at least that was impressively demonstrated by the majority of the candidates.

Touring boots for women – women’s movement
Boot brands and manufacturers are a dime a dozen. But providers of waterproof touring boots especially for women are rare? much to their chagrin. Because the anatomy of the feet of women and men is very different. And that doesn’t mean the shoe size, which is generally smaller for women. For example, the shape of the foot, the ankle area and the transition to the calf are more decisive. Only if the boots have an appropriate fit do they fix the delicate women’s feet appropriately and securely. The table on the right shows all current suppliers of motorcycle and all-weather footwear, the fit of which is specially designed for the needs of women’s feet.

plus

Verdict: good
Conclusion
The overall result is gratifying, as none of the candidates comes off worse than a “good” rating. This means that all models meet the high requirements for waterproof touring boots. Nevertheless: The optimal touring boot would have to be put together from the many good properties of the individual test candidates. For example, from the waterproofness of the Difi Explorer, the pleasant wearing and driving behavior of the Hein Gericke T1R High XCR, the lightness of the Monza from Kochmann when walking, the safety and stability of the Held Via, the functional handling of the Uvex Sepang and the excellent workmanship of the Ixs Flash. A boot that would combine all of this would score 94 points and would be the high-flyer in the 150 euro class.
