Textile combination in the test

As part of a demanding on- and off-road tour, Dainese presented its new “Explorer” adventure collection exclusively in Iceland. We were there and tell you in particular how the Dainese Explorer Antartica textile combination felt.

The cut of the textile suit Dainese Overall, Explorer Antartica is very body-hugging, which is very praiseworthy in terms of safety and aerodynamics. Nothing flutters at speeds over 160 km / h, and the full set of protectors fits perfectly. It couldn’t be better! Unfortunately, there are no long and short sizes on offer, but the proportions of the standard sizes (46 to 62) still suited the physically very different test drivers well. The protectors enclose the joints tightly, do not press or slip.

Lots of storage space

Despite the tight fit and high-quality, very abrasion-resistant outer fabrics, the freedom of movement remains astonishingly high. Even in longer, sporty off-road sections, the Antartica suit was as comfortable as a tracksuit. Class! The driver survived numerous water crossings and hours of rain in a dry condition – the Gore-Tex membrane reliably does its job. In warm weather and physically strenuous off-road driving, generous ventilation can be opened, allowing the cooling airflow to flow effectively and directly to the upper body and legs. The inlets are also covered with high quality waterproof zippers.

Dainese

The Dainese station wagon is not necessarily cheap. The jacket costs 1,399.95 euros. Dainese charges 799.95 euros for the trousers.

The storage space divided into several spacious pockets is practical. The compartments are optimally placed for freedom of movement, but the accessibility of the outer jacket pockets suffers. Purses can be less fiddly & Co. in the also waterproof trouser pockets on the thigh. If required, the thermal layer can also be stowed very comfortably and with little disruption in the large-volume kidney pocket of the jacket. Keyword thermal layer: At temperatures below 15 degrees you should actually wear the ultra-light mid-layer made of goose down. The comfortably fitting, removable thermal collar is also highly recommended.

Not a bargain

In terms of body climate, the layer system is wonderfully coordinated with one another – only the rather warm and fluffy thermal lining of the pants is not well suited for enduro use, but rather for dull, straight-ahead stages in cooler climes. The workmanship and features of the suit are of the highest quality. Just like the prices: the trousers cost 799.95 euros, the jacket costs 1,399.95 euros. The suit is nevertheless ideal for globetrotters and hardcore touring riders. It is available in the colors light gray / black and black. The total weight (in size 54) is 5.6 kilograms.

Noticed positively: Cut, equipment, shift system

Noticed negatively: Accessibility to outside jacket pockets

Sizes: 46 to 62

Price: 2,199.90 euros
