Derbi GPR 125 Racing test
The Bringer

The Ducati driver said hello and so did the VTR driver. Sure, at the front, with elegant turn signal mirrors and adult multi-reflector double headlights. Respect. Even if you
in the former, hardly any consideration is given and only the high and low beam allow one lamp to shine. Anyway, that Derbi makes for damn fat gigs with
125 cm3. The parked GPR is quickly surrounded by 16 and 17 year olds.
After all, the beautiful new Spaniard, together with the Aprilia RS 125 and the Cagiva Mito, is the sportiest youngster device. And like the Italians, it is brought up to speed by a powerful two-stroke engine. It is built by Yamaha and trimmed to the Euro 2 emissions standard with a U-Kat and a secondary air system.
Only with a cold start, cool with a button, blue clouds escape from the
Razor-sharp underseat silencers. The choke on the left end of the handlebar can be pushed back early. Jerk and
The Derbi gets going without stuttering. Hey, something’s going on, real 15 HP can put even old hands in a good mood.
However, it means to stir diligently in the six-speed gearbox, ignore long shift paths and keep the engine happy, between 7000 and 9000 tours. The thrust decreases again in the five-digit range, but the vibrations in the plastic tank, footrests and handles increase significantly. 125 things run the 125 cc. Just never lose your momentum!
On narrow, winding stretches, the 134 kilogram light flyweight shows even super athletes the bold rear light for an outrageously long time. Really true. The bonsai racer follows the with great precision
Line, reacts to the smallest steering impulses. Pure physics: narrower tires require less lean angle than wide-tyred big bikes for the same speed. And these rubbers, Pirelli Sport Demon, grip perfectly.
The sturdy, aluminum bridge frame built by Benelli clamps an upside-down fork (!). She acts sportily and tightly, but not insensitively. Only the central spring strut, which is directly linked to the aluminum triangular swing arm, tends to be soft, forcing it to be pretensioned. It starts to pump easily on badly furrowed stretches.
Another highlight: the front brake with radially screwed four-piston fixed calliper. Three or four years ago, there were not even 1000s in series production. However, the radially acting handbrake lever requires high actuation forces during full braking. The effect is flawless, the controllability suffers a little, despite the steel flex lines.
You can enjoy great contact with the bike on the two-part seat cushion. The wide handlebars are easy to reach, the footrests are quite high. Soon you feel like Jorge Lorenzo, Derbis works driver in the 125cc World Championship. Really the bringer.
It’s just a shame that when processing the GPR, genius and sloppiness live next door to one another. Cheap sheet metal screws hold the fairing, the upper triple clamp in clumsy sand casting offends the eye. And the automatically folding, too short side stand is uncool and not very stable. Something like this is hardly considered trendy at a purchase price of 5000 euros. tsr
