The H2 SX types are happy to take a pillion passenger with them (195 kg payload are allowed). However, the weight increased to 260 kg.

The fully adjustable chassis is just as good. Sure, it can’t hide the more than five hundredweight, but the H2 SX SE is very full on the road.

Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX / SE 2018 in the driving report
Simply superior propulsion
Kawasaki presented a new sports tourer with a supercharged engine at EICMA 2017. The Kawasaki H2 SX will also be available in an even more elegant SE variant. And we were just allowed to drive the latter in Portugal. Here are the first impressions.
An athlete suitable for touring with a supercharged engine? Exactly. KWith the new Kawasaki H2 SX, awasaki presented a new offshoot from the H2 series at EICMA 2017 in Milan. Compared to the first generation H2, a lot is said to have changed. Weak points such as the slightly delayed response behavior and noticeable pushing forward when the throttle grip is closed are said to have been eliminated. For this, Kawasaki has dug deep into its bag of tricks: new crankshaft, new camshafts, new cylinders and a new exhaust system, to name just the most important changes to the 1,000cc four-cylinder engine. Kawasaki promises the same performance with a slightly higher torque and significantly lower consumption. The 200 hp engine is said to produce 200 hp at 11,000 rpm and 137 Nm at 9,500 rpm.

We could already drive the SX.
Compared to the first H2 generation, the new engine of the Kawasaki H2 SX has also been three kilograms lighter. With the new H2 SX, Kawasaki wants to take the interplay of comfort and driving dynamics to a new level. A stiffer frame, a longer wheelbase and a new windbreak are said to have significantly improved comfort and ergonomics. Because the H2 models come as solo vehicles, but the H2 SX models also like to take a pillion passenger with them (195 kilograms payload are allowed), the weight increased somewhat. Note: a stiffer frame is not a Weight Watchers program. At 260 kilograms with a full 19 liter barrel, the pointer of the scale on the H2 SX SE presented in Portugal should stop. SE stands for “Special Edition”. This version has a few more technical gimmicks than the four kilo lighter basic version.
The SX can be pious, but also angry

Kawasaki Ninja H2 SX SE.
But enough of the preface now. How does the compressor animal drive? Well behaved. To put it in one word. Anyone who swung their leg over the Speedbolzen-H2 may be surprised, but it is true. There is nothing left of the mangy character of the namesake in the tour variant. And that’s just as well. The four-cylinder hangs fine on the gas, snuffles even in town at 50 km / h in sixth gear and with 2,000 rpm on the clock piously to himself. Running culture par excellence.
And even if the engine is supposed to rev up spontaneously at this speed, it does this job without grumbling. Sounds pretty unspectacular, but it simply stands for extremely confident propulsion.
If that is too boring for you: Simply step down the aisles with the blipper of the H2 SX SE. The compressor motor can still be angry. With every 1,000 rpm step that the tachometer needle strives for maximum output of 200 hp at 11,000 tours, the four-man pushes harder. Completely without a break-in, always more violent. The adjustable shift lights in the TFT cockpit of the H2 SX SE remind you to pay attention, the next gear flies behind without having to grip the clutch. There it is, the power of the compressor. Even well above 200 km / h, the premise is still: give thrust, rocket.
Whereby: The H2 SX is a bit far from the radical nature of the H2. The compressor has the same diameter, but the fins are shaped slightly different. According to Hiroyuki Watanabe, the project manager of the H2 SX, that should not have changed anything in terms of boost pressure, but you still have the feeling that the supercharged sports tourer is not quite as powerful as the H2. But maybe this impression is only due to the much more civilized manners of the H2 SX, which hangs cleanly, with fine response on the gas. Even if the bold print is missing subjectively, it is still impressive.

Chassis and brakes leave little to be desired.
And because the H2 SX SE vehemently sniffs the straights underneath it, it is good that the 320 mm discs with radially mounted calipers and radial brake pump provide a finely adjustable, stable brake mix. The effective and vehemently gripping ABS then does the rest. The fully adjustable suspension is just as good. Sure, it can’t hide the more than five hundredweight, but the H2 SX SE is very full on the road. The fork gently takes the fright out of the Portuguese rumble asphalt, while the rear shock works a little less sensitive. Which is really complaining at the highest level.
The high level is also reflected in the price. The H2 SX SE costs 21,995 euros. In return, the Kawa fan receives not only the compressor technology, but also a motorcycle with features such as leek control, TFT display and blipper, which the cheaper sister for 18,995 euros does not have. Both have cornering ABS, traction control, engine brake control, cruise control, LED lighting, 12,000 service intervals and three driving modes. If you are still brooding: Only 295 of the 2018 model will come to Germany.
