Exactly 55 years after the first Scrambler, Ducati crowns the current Scrambler series from Bologna: The new Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled (“desert sled”) is concentrate for the soul – it looks great and also drives well.
From a distance of 15, 20 meters, the illusion is perfect, it works D.ucati Scrambler Desert Sled like a larger, modern Yamaha XT 500: Despite the impressive 20 centimeters of spring travel at the front and rear, the rounded shape of the 13.5-liter tank with the stylish aluminum panels on the side, the high front fenders that are typical of Enduro and the rather generous are reminiscent padded bench at the off-road milestone from Japan. Or is the visual similarity based more on the pretty spoked wheels with the golden rims (17 inches at the back, 19 inches at the front) and the wide handlebars with cross braces, in front of which the cables and lines of the right handlebar fittings run in a wide arc? The aluminum engine guard, 238 millimeters of ground clearance and the protective grille in front of the headlights look cool.

Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled is not a blender
The air-cooled 90-degree V2 with two valves and an additional oil cooler combines 803 cubic centimeters. From this, the injector with the latest Euro 4 emissions control technology officially draws 75 hp and 68 Newton meters of torque. Neat stainless steel elbows lead to two short exhaust pipes made of black anodized aluminum in the lower ground floor. The long-stroke upside-down fork is fully adjustable and easy to swallow. Like the directly hinged strut on the left, which is attached rather diagonally and directly articulated, it comes from Kayaba – yellow spring or not. Compared to Ducati’s other current scramblers, the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled tubular space frame and swing arm mount are strongly reinforced. So she’s not a blender.

Beautiful motorcycles are usually impractical, functional ones are rarely sexy. This is different with this classic soft enduro with modern ingredients. Everything fits ergonomically with the Ducati Scrambler Desert Sled: The wide enduro handlebars are great to hand, but a little way forward. The sitting position is relaxed, a narrow knee and jagged enduro footrests provide good contact with the fully fueled machine, which weighs around 210 kilograms. A seat height of around 86 centimeters looks quite high, and there is an optional two centimeter lower bench. The base price of 11,000 euros is certainly not a bargain for the top model in the Scrambler range. However, 32,000 of these machines have already been built in the past two years. It is well received, the mixture of classic and modern – especially now!
