Ultimately, however, the V2 is well educated with its variable valve control, hangs cleanly on the gas across the entire speed range and exudes sovereignty.

Ducati’s first cruiser

Long, strong, black. No cigarillos, no coffee and yet from Italy. With the Ducati XDiavel, Ducati ventures into the cruiser segment for the first time.
The sparkling clean milled ribs of the valve train covers are optically continued in the massive cast wheels, the brushed aluminum swing arm corresponds to the filigree covers of the water cooler, the 240 mm cylinder in the rear mesmerizes the view. Taste or not, the Ducati cruiser looks razor-sharp. A cruiser? From Ducati? Correctly. After the Diavel muscle bike and the retro Scrambler concept, the Italians are attacking with the D.ucati XDiavel now the next segment.

Ducati XDiavel in the PS driving report
Ducati’s first cruiser
XDiavel finds the genetic material from Bologna. The 156 hp engine comes from the Multistrada. With a stroke that is 1.6 millimeters longer and thus increased displacement to 1262 cm³, it should climb to its 129 Nm high torque plateau at 5000 rpm. In terms of chassis, the new one adopts the concept of the Monster family. The short tubular space frame is bolted to the cylinder heads, the swing arm and strut are supported on an aluminum bridge that is also attached to the engine housing.
If you are not careful, the front wheel will be pulled up
Despite Euro 4, the Vau-Zwo thunders away with bass and sonority. How was it? Cruiser. Low seat, high handlebars, legs stretched forward. Often looks relaxed – and rarely is. But the men from Emilia Romagna did not overdo it. It sits well balanced, the biceps have a break. Yet. Because the engine of the Ducati XDiavel is up to 3000 rpm just like the house and if it still stumbles awkwardly up the speed ladder, then things get going. If you are not careful, the front wheel will tear up after turning in the first two gears. And that with a cruiser!
But don’t worry. Firstly, because the Duc developers gave the XDiavel the full electronics package with three driving modes, cornering ABS and traction control. And second, because the V2 with its variable valve control is ultimately well educated, hangs cleanly on the gas across the entire rev range and exudes sovereignty. Cruising or racing, the drive of the Ducati XDiavel can do both.
Not exactly a bargain
This also applies to the chassis of the Ducati XDiavel – despite the 1615 millimeter long wheelbase, 60 degrees flat steering angle and the imposing 240 mm roller on the rear wheel. It is amazing how effortlessly the machine turns into corners and keeps neatly on track. The macho slipper pulls on the line only when it is upset. Class: the timing belt. The carbon-reinforced rubber band swallows the load change shock at the curve apex almost completely.
And perhaps also comforts a little over the somewhat difficult to pull clutch or the tightly tuned Sachs shock absorber of the Ducati XDiavel – and the price. Because at 19,890 euros for the basic version and 22,890 euros for the S version, which is optically pimped and technically upgraded with a higher quality brake caliper and DLC (Diamond Like Carbon) -coated standpipes of the Marzocchi fork, a big bag of coal wanders over the counter . But let’s be honest: Doesn’t it look razor-sharp, Ducati’s first cruiser?
