It was tested in the wind tunnel whether the reflectors of the street legal M 1000 RR on the front of the fender impair the aerodynamics.

The result: not a bit. The front tire directs the air flow past the reflectors on both sides.

First driving report of the BMW M 1000 RR (2021)
First driving report of the BMW M 1000 RR
On the way to the World Cup
The M 1000 RR should bring BMW to the fore in the Superbike World Championship. MOTORRAD was able to collect its first driving impressions – unfortunately still off the racetrack.
Ralf Schneider
March 8th, 2021
212 hp, 198 kg with a full tank, the finest components, the latest electronics, sophisticated aerodynamics – it goes without saying that you cannot exploit the potential of a motorcycle like the BMW M 1000 RR on country roads. However, it is by no means a matter of course how pleasantly and comfortably the latest basic machine for the Superbike World Championship can be driven on the country road.
Easy turning, high accuracy
Although the chassis developers have lengthened the wheelbase and caster in the pursuit of more braking and cornering stability and made the steering head flatter, the BMW M 1000 RR impresses with its easy turning with high accuracy. In addition to the light carbon fiber wheels, the production tires of the Dunlop Sportmax TT type, which functioned splendidly in the warm spring temperatures, are also involved in these virtues. The same can be said of the engine, which has been upgraded with titanium connecting rods, lighter pistons and standard machined intake ports, albeit the differences to the engine of the S 1000 RR probably only come to light on the racetrack or even in superbike racing trim.
Detailed driving report in MOTORRAD 7/2021 from March 19th
Either way: It’s amazing how you can pick up speed out of a curve with the BMW M 1000 RR, even when exiting a curve on a wet road. In the moderate driving modes Road or Dynamic, which are recommended for such road conditions, the traction control intervenes noticeably but gently, and there is no need for more action with extensive use of the electronic driving aids provided.
On the other hand, the new four-piston fixed calipers on the front wheel go to work with an energetic initial bite, but always remain precisely adjustable. These are Nissin brake calipers that have been optimized in cooperation with the BMW development department.
BMW M 1000 RR from 33,000 euros
Anyone who can spend more than the basic price of 33,000 euros will find high-quality carbon and milled parts, a lighter swing arm, the maintenance-free endurance chain from Regina and a GPS trigger that records and incorporate the racetrack laps in the M Competition package for 4,100 euros represents. The only disadvantage besides the high price: Driving errors are revealed without mercy.
A detailed driving report with impressions from the racetrack as well as the first measured values ββis available in MOTORRAD 7/2021, available from March 19 – at the kiosk or here to download.
Conclusion
First conclusion after a test drive on partly damp country roads: The BMW M 1000 RR presents itself as a top-class, high-quality basic superbike that has retained a lot of competence for public transport.
