Yes, it drives. More than 30 minutes are not possible on the only centimeter-wide bench made of layered leather.

Max from Hazan Motorworks is a master of metal construction. His latest modification has two motors, a compressor and a bicycle brake.

  • It starts on Ebay
  • Frame self-made
  • The longest tank in the world
  • Nothing for the long haul
  • Conclusion

Who doesn’t know that: the customizer of choice has already sold the unique dream bike. The natural reaction: I’ll take another one and order another one right away. But then it should have two motors and a compressor, please.

It starts on Ebay

Everything starts with this conversion on Ebay. There Max discovers the engine of the Velocette Mac. A single cylinder with 349 cubic meters, built between 1946 and 1959. The Californian by choice is enthusiastic about the shape. And best of all: the seller lives down the street. On the workbench, Max realizes that two of these unique motor housings harmonize perfectly. In England he found a second Mac engine and a Matchless four-speed gearbox.

It connects the two motors with a toothed belt, and the power of the motors is also transmitted to the clutch. Clever: the belt for the clutch is toothed on both sides to drive the compressor. You read that right. Max not only installs two motors, he also pressurizes them using an Eaton TVS R 410 compressor. It’s probably the only modern part in the drivetrain. Power: around 50 hp. Together. In the context of the chassis and the brakes, that’s enough.

Frame self-made

Max pulls a tubular frame made of chromoly steel around the crazy drive package and gives it a look like the nickel-plated and brazed frame by the Rickman brothers. Delicacy: The housing ventilation leads back into the oil circuit via the frame tubes. The trapeze fork is also made of high-strength but light steel. Visually, it leans slightly on the Webb forks installed by Velocette, but now dampens hydraulically and not, as in the past, with friction dampers.

Max combines the self-made fork with a low handlebar that is strongly reminiscent of the racing bikes of the 19th century. Following this picture, Max has the front wheel made. It consists of two aluminum halves, which are fixed by stainless steel bushes and held together by the spoke tension. Adapted to this is a V-brake with three cork brake shoes on each side. Max grades the braking force with six out of ten possible points.

In the rear, a similarly constructed wheel with a drum brake rotates in the two-part triangular swing arm made of chromoly steel, screwed eccentrically to the frame with an air-sprung damper from Fox – actually working in a mountain bike.

The longest tank in the world

The elongated sheet metal bubble on the narrow frame looks like the longest gasoline tank of a motorcycle of all time. Whether the shape of the Titanic was intended to be dissimilar or not shaped by the rest of the style is not documented. The two fuel caps attract attention and indicate the three functions. On the one hand as a fuel tank, on the other hand as an oil tank for the two engines. Thirdly, the tank serves as a pressure vessel: the compressor pushes part of the air into the fuel tank. In this way, the fuel is pressed into the carburetor with the same pressure as the air. You have to figure it out first.

Nothing for the long haul

The bench made of twelve layers of leather consistently takes up the narrow tank connection, the ride on the razor blade painfully comes to mind. The non-upholstery lies on a hand-driven aluminum hump, which runs wide to the rear, matically picks up the exhaust and ends just as pointedly as it begins. Unique shapes meet unique technology.

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.

Better to leave it in its original condition.

Conclusion

Great: Two old British single cylinders, a compressor, a bicycle brake and a bench as wide as a school ruler. A custom bike from the category “Inaccessible beautiful”. But it drives. Long-distance comfort is not available and the knowledge that the petrol tank is under the pressure of the compressor may also seem strange.
