When American paint design from the 1970s and Japanese technology from the 1980s meet for the lockdown in 2020, something crazy must come out of it: The Anaconda Honda from Renard Speedshop.

Paint of the 70s

In 2014 Steph Jeavons set off on a world tour on her Honda CRF 250L. In 2018 it will return a good 120,000 kilometers and 54 countries later. The name of the Honda is Rhonda. Presumably in an alcohol-pregnant lockdown mood, Andres from Renard Speedshop in Estonia gives his Honda XBR 500 the name: Anaconda Honda, based on Rhonda. A psychedelic paint scheme from the 1970s with seemingly endless pinstripes crown the poison green paint on the tank, front and rear. The frame, swing arm and oil tank of the Honda’s dry sump lubrication are also in the green base coat. The red anodized coating of the valve cover, drum brake and rear hubs as well as the front wheel sets accents. Complemented by the bright orange of the Behringer brake components and the in-house handlebar fittings.

Technology of the 80s

In 1985 Honda wants to answer the success of the Yamaha SR 500 with the XBR. Unrestricted with 44 HP and from 1987 with spoked wheels, although desirable, due to the critical oil balance of the dry sump, it is susceptible and difficult to maintain. Nevertheless, the descendants of this engine can be found in the Dominator, SLR 650 and FMX 650 until 2007 and in the XR 650 L even until 2019. The Anaconda Honda is based on a 44 hp version from 1988. The Honda GL 1000 is even older, and the XBR has a 19-inch front wheel.

A disc of the Behringer premium brakes rotates on this hub and is decelerated by a four-piston caliper from the same company. The rear wheel is original, but rotates in a new tubular swing arm that better fits the frame. The struts of an old SWM spring and dampen the rear, in the empty triangle of which a Supertrapp silencer blows out on the left and the individual air filter inhales on the right.

Below is a fire extinguisher converted into an oil tank. Said air filter supplies a flat slide carburetor from Mikuni, which gets its fuel from the converted tank of an old Cagiva. A 50s Jawa from the 1960s – to bring in another era – leaves the rear fender with the distinctive rump on the Anaconda.

Many are beautiful, but also impassable.

Better to leave it in its original condition.

Conclusion

A little journey through the younger epochs with the goal of a grandiose custom bike. An old XBR 500 becomes a sensational one-off with heavy paint, a new swing arm and a fire extinguisher as an oil tank.
